NFL relocation banter is finally over, and at least one franchise will be changing zip codes. The St. Louis Rams will be playing at Inglewood, California in the 2016, bringing football back to Los Angeles after 21 years.
The Rams will play in a new state-of-the-art facility, built on the old Hollywood Park racetrack. It’s slated to feature a glass ceiling, an adjacent 6,000-seat performing arts venue, and an estimated total cost of $3 billion. Even though it took until January for the NFL owners to decide on relocation, Rams owner Stan Kroenke has already broken ground on the development space.
The site, located just four miles from Los Angeles International Airport, measures in at almost 300 acres.
The stadium and arts center are the jewel of the development, which is almost three times the size of Vatican City. Hollywood Park will also feature premium shopping, restaurants, and a luxury housing development.
The stadium is expected to be ready for business for the 2019 NFL season. Until then, the Rams are expected to play their home games at L.A. Memorial Coliseum.
The Rams may not be the only team in Los Angeles. The Chargers have an option to join the Rams, and should they decline, the option will go to the Raiders.
