Knicks New Head Coach: Top 5 Candidates

The Derek Fisher era is officially over in New York.

According to ESPN, the Knicks have fired the second-year head coach on Monday afternoon after opening the season 23-31 and going 17-65 in Fisher's first season. As of Monday, New York was riding a five-game losing skid after winning just one game in the last 10 on-court appearances.

Fisher, who had no previous head coaching experience, was hired by team president Phil Jackson to try and turn around the struggling franchise. Of course, Jackson and Fisher had strong ties before they even got to New York. The pair were coach and player in Los Angeles and Fisher helped lead the Lakers to five NBA championships as the team's point guard.

Rumor has it that Jackson may once again dip into the former-player pool to try and find a new head coach, but there are still plenty of other big-name options out there as well. Click through the gallery to check out Heavy's Top 5 for the next Knicks head coach. (Getty)
