WWE Fastlane 2016: The Results & Highlights You Need to Know

The Road to WrestleMania 32 is filled with plenty of intrigue and intense clashes. Now that Triple H is the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, a new challenger to his title reign must rise. The man who wins Fastlane 2016’s main event will go on to face HHH at ‘Mania 32. Three men will battle for that much celebrated position – Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose. Also on the card is the tie breaker between AJ Styles and Chris Jericho, championship matches for the United States and Intercontinental titles and so much more. Winner: And still the WWE United States Champion, Kalisto!

Highlights: Both Luchador’s got rough with each other early. Rio pushed Kalisto into the corner, let go and got into another lockup right after. Rio began landing some punches and kicks on his opponent for a while in the corner. Kalisto began fighting back, but his comeback didn’t last long. Both men ended up on the outside and began running for a bit. Back in the ring, Kalisto caught Rio off guard with a Spike Hurricanrana. Rio left the ring and then got splashed by Kalisto as soon as he looked up. Rio soon got back to his feet and pushed Kalisto into the ring apron and steel steps. Kalisto ended up back in the ring for even more punishment by Rio. Rio landed a Snap Suplex, pushed Kalisto back to the outside and assaulted him even more. Rio tried to throw Kalisto into the steel ring post, but Kalisto countered him and caused Rio to smash into it face first. Kalisto pulled off some high flying excellence after landing another Hurricanrana to Rio that dropped into the bell ringer section. Kalisto went for another big move, but Rio swung a steel chair right into Kalisto’s legs. Kalisto got the 1st fall win due to DQ. Rio wasted no time in beating up Kalisto on the outside during the 2nd fall.

When the action truly got underway, Rio began striking Kalisto in the corner. He quickly gained the 2nd fall win after spiking Kalisto into the mat with his double foot stomp. As soon as the 3rd fall began, Rio dropped Kalisto with a clothesline. Rio put Kalisto on the top rope and went crazy as he tried to rip his mask off. Rio used his swift kicks to further injure Kalisto while he was still tied up in the corner. Rio climbed to the top to land his finisher, but Kalisto used his legs to grab Rio off the top. Kalisto entered into his 2nd gear soon after and went on a tear with his exciting comeback offense. Rio eventually shook off the damage caused to him and dropped Kalisto with a Tilt-a-Whirl Backbreaker. Kalisto looked to be hit with another big move, but her reversed Rio’s next move attempt into a Tornado DDT. Kalisto climbed to the top rope, but Rio punched his legs out from under him and started striking him once again.

Rio shocked the crowd after landing his Reverse Suplex right off the trop rope. Kalisto did the smart thing and rolled to the outside. Rio followed him, laid him over the bell ringer’s area and landed his double foot stomp to him once again. Rio almost grabbed the title via count out, but Kalisto hopped into the ring before the count of 10. Rio went for his finisher once more, but Kalisto dodged it. Kalisto grabbed Rio’s neck, used his momentum to shove Rio face first into the ring corner pad and won the match with a surprise roll-up pin.


Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks vs. Team B.A.D. (Naomi and Tamina)

Winners: Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks!

Highlights: Becky began the match with Naomi…until Sasha tagged herself in earlier than expected. Naomi used this confusing moment to beat on Becky and bring in Tamina. Tamina got in a few strikes before Becky tagged herself in to get Sasha out. Sasha and Becky used a double dropkick to put down their opponents. Becky got in several leg drops on Tamina for a bit before Naomi ended up in the ring once again. Naomi pulled off a bunch of quick kicks to Becky’s sides, but Becky caught her leg on the last kick and threw her over her back with a Capture Suplex. The action went to the outside when Becky and Sasha splashed their rivals. Becky ended up on the receiving end of some punishment from Naomi and Tamina after she was dropped gut first onto the ring apron’s ropes. Becky ran into the ring before she got counted out, but she ran right into some stiff offense from Naomi.

Tamina got into the match and landed a ruthless clothesline on Becky. For a good while, Becky got further weakened by tandem offense from both Naomi and Tamina. After a huge leg drop, Naomi locked in a sleeper hold and more strikes to the back to a weakened Becky. Becky got struck down even more for a bit and looked to get the hot tag on Sasha to save herself, but Naomi brought Sasha off the ring apron before Becky could tag out. Becky faced even more of a beatdown from her new rivals, but she eventually got the tag to her partner. Sasha got rolling as soon as she entered the ring and began taking down her former stablemates. Sasha dropped her knees into Naomi in the ring corner on her 1st attempt, but missed on her 2nd attempt. Sasha countered Naomi’s counter with a Backstabber and almost locked in her Banks Statement submission, but Tamina saved her at the last moment.

The acton entered into an even more intense stage as Tamina got in a nice Superkick to Sasha. Sasha almost ended up getting laid out with a double suplex, but Sasha flipped out of it. Becky laid across both women with a top-rope splash and helped Sasha lock Tamina into her Banks Statement. Becky kept Naomi down with her Dis-Arm-Her while Sasha made Tamina tap out.


Kevin Owens (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler (WWE Intercontinental Championship)

Winner: And still the WWE Intercontinental Champion, Kevin Owens!

Highlights: Ziggler wanted to get his hands on Owens quickly, but Owens used the ropes at first to keep his distance. While Ziggler’s hometown crowd cheered for their boy, Owens ended up taking control early with a headbutt and several strikes to Ziggler’s back. Owens locked in a submission hold on Ziggler, but Ziggler shocked the crowd by using his amateur wrestling abilities to catch Owens off guard. Owens quickly regained the upper hand with a headlock, but soon got put on the mat with a Ziggler dropkick. Ziggler used a splash to damage Owens in the corner and tried to shove Owens into the opposite ring corner. Owens switched positions though and shoved Ziggler’s shoulder into the corner. Owens then capitalized on Ziggler’s injured state by using his usual array of heavy offense. After dropping all his weight on Ziggler with a back splash, Owens tried to put Ziggler to sleep with a sleeper hold.

Ziggler soon found a way to fight back and escape the hold. He almost completed his comeback offense, but Owens cut him off by moving out of the way of Ziggler’s elbow drop. Owens flattened Ziggler with his back splash once again and locked Ziggler into another sleeper hold. Ziggler fought back to his feet, but Owens kicked him in the gut to stop him. Owens then threw Ziggler into the corner and looked to follow it up, but Owens made a huge mistake by running right into the steel ring corner and hurting his shoulder. Once Owens got back into the ring, Ziggler got his adrenaline flowing and began landing all his comeback arsenal on Owens. Ziggler looked to go for his Fame-Asser, but Owens dodged it at the last second. After a brief counter exchange, Owens dropped Ziggler groin first onto the ring ropes and followed that up with a Cannonball Splash into Ziggler into the corner.

Owens then went for his finisher, but Ziggler fought it off and spiked Owens with a Jumping DDT. Both Superstars soon ended up on the top rope, which led to Owens using his big Fisherman Buster to incapacitate Ziggler. Ziggler slipped out of the ring to keep from getting pinned, though. Owens tried to retrieve him, but he got dropped with a surprise Superkick out of nowhere. Back in the ring, Ziggler missed his Zig Zag opportunity and got Superkicked himself by Owens. While both men were laid out, Owens soon got to his feet first and grabbed Ziggler. Ziggler hopped up in time to Superkick Owens again! On the outside, Owens almost powerbombed Ziggler on the ring apron but Ziggler flipped Owens with a Hurricanrana into the steel ring steps. Once Ziggler returned Owens into the ring, he finally landed his Fame-Asser. Ziggler almost landed another Superkick, but Owens shoved the ref into his direction. Owens used that minor distraction to finish Ziggler with his Pop Up Powerbomb.
