After an exciting two weeks of group play, Copa America Centenario has narrowed it’s field down to eight teams. In ten day’s time, that field will be down to just two for the Copa America final at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. United States has qualified as host nation, but it didn’t come easy in a challenging group.
The strongest team from CONCACAF has been Mexico, who took seven points from three matches and will face defending champions Chile in the quarterfinals. Chile brushed off a loss against Argentina to win their final two matches, but are still alive thanks to a 4-2 victory over Panama in their final match.
Only one team went 3-0-0 through qualifying, and that’s FIFA’s top-ranked team. Argentina didn’t have Messi for much of their opening games, but the Barcelona striker is recovered from his back problems and ready to lead La Albiceleste to their first trophy in 23 years.
