Just when it looked like Poland was going to advance to the next round of Euro 2016, Xherdan Shaqiri had something else in mind. At the 81′, Shaqiri scored the equalizer for Switzerland to tie the match at 1-1.
The goal sent the match into extra time where Switzerland still had a chance to advance to the next round. After a scoreless extra time, Poland was able to recover and win on penalty kicks. Despite Shaqiri’s wonder goal, the Swiss are headed home while Poland is the first team to advance to the final eight.
The Swiss were the second team to come out of Group A with 5 points while Poland advanced as the second team in Group C with 7 points.
It was not the first time Shaqiri pulled off an amazing bicycle kick. Check out this goal from a few years ago.
When he is not scoring clutch goals for Switzerland, he plays for Stoke City. While the goal came in a losing effort, it will still go down as one of the best of Euro 2016.
