Jimmie Johnson accomplished something Friday he had never done before in his Hall of Fame career.

He won a pole at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Johnson was the fastest during qualifying at the Loudon track and will start from the top spot in Sunday’s New Hampshire 301.

Johnson did the “Magic Mile” in 28.430 seconds during the final round of qualifying. Kyle Busch will begin in the front row with Johnson. Busch turned in a fast lap of 28.460 seconds.

It is Johnson’s 35th career pole. He has three career wins at New Hampshire, with the last coming in June 2010.

Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch will make up Row 2.

Race time is set for 1:30 p.m. Eastern and it will be televised on NBC Sports Network (NBCSN).

One name you’re not going to see in the starting lineup is Dale Earnhardt Jr. Junior is going to miss Sunday’s race with concussion-like symptoms. Alex Bowman will drive the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. Bowman will start Sunday’s race in the 20th position.
