Anderson Silva vs. Daniel Cormier Results

Daniel Cormier was too much for 41-year-old Anderson Silva at UFC 200 on Saturday night, earning a unanimous decision victory in a fight that, unsurprisingly considering it was made two days ago, didn’t feature a whole lot of action.

Going up against a man widely regarded as the best MMA fighter of all-time, the former Olympic wrestler didn’t mess around, as he landed a takedown in each of the three rounds and overpowered Silva while the sound of boos from the Las Vegas crowd rang down.

It’s technically a loss in the record books for Silva, making it four in his last five, but the ability to last three rounds on two days notice just seven weeks after undergoing gall bladder surgery is an achievement of its own.

As for DC, fighting in such unique conditions, he simply did what he had to do to win.

Pre-Match Preview

When Jon Jones was abruptly pulled from the main event a couple days ago, the massive card looked to be in serious trouble.

But what better way to save UFC 200 than with arguably the greatest MMA fighter of all-time?

“The Spider” may no longer be in his prime, but there’s no questioning that the 41-year-old, who owns records for the longest UFC title reign, longest winning streak and most consecutive title defenses, is still a huge draw every time he enters the Octagon.

Silva has lost three of his last four fights, but that’s no reason to count him out.

“I think it’s an interesting, fun fight,” said UFC president Dana White. “Anderson’s still undefeated at 205, and not just undefeated, devastatingly undefeated. Any times he’s moved up to 205 he’s looked even better than he did at 185, which is crazy.”

Ultimately, Cormier’s light heavyweight belt isn’t on the line, and Silva’s legacy won’t be affected on a fight he took on two-days notice, but it could be an opportunity for him to get another shot at a belt:

Either way, this is a unique matchup between two very different style fighters, and it’ll be compelling to see what happens.
