Australia Olympic Women’s Swim Team: Meet the 4×100 Freestyle Relay

For so long, the United States women dominated the 4x100-meter freestyle relay, winning nine of 11 Olympic gold medals between 1960 and 2000. But times have changed, and while the Americans are still firmly in the mix, Australia has bumped the Red, White and Blue from atop the ladder in this particular event. The Aussies took gold in 2004, bronze in 2008, gold again in 2012, and continued their dominance by setting a new world record to win gold for the third time in four Games in Rio on Saturday night. Jacco Verhaeren went with the quartet of Madison Wilson, Brittany Elmslie and sisters Bronte and Cate Campbell during the opening heat, then replaced Wilson with Emma McKeon for the final.
