David Lekuta Rudisha is the Kenyan middle-distance runner who shocked the world with his record-breaking 800-meter run at the 2012 London Olympics. His record time - 1:40.91 - still stands and he remains the only person ever to run the 800m in under 1:41.
Rudisha is a star in Kenya, although he has faced adversity in recent years, He's struggled to come back from injuries and was in an infamous race in May at the IAAF Diamond League Shanghai meet. His road back to the Olympics wasn't easy, but his runs in the heats before Monday's final prove that he still has something left in the tank.
Since London, Rudisha has become a father. The 27-year-old Rudisha has been married to Lizzy Naanyu since 2010. He also comes from a family of runners, as his father Daniel won silver in the 4x100m relay at the 1968 Mexico City Summer Olympics. His mother was also a hurdler.
