Jenny Simpson will compete in the finals of the 1,500-meter Tuesday night against world record holder Genzebe Dibaba of Ethiopia at the Rio Olympics. Simpson, who failed to get out of the semifinals at the 2012 Olympics, could become the first U.S. woman to medal in the 1500-meter. During Sunday's semifinal, Simpson was fourth in 4:05:07.
“Four years ago I didn’t make the final, so that was something that I wouldn’t allow myself to say out loud today, and now I can probably say it out loud,” Simpson told USA Today. “That was a big thing for me, not repeating the misfortune of four years ago.” Click through the gallery to learn more about Simpson, and see some of her best Instagram photos.
