While Michael Phelps is all about business when it comes to swimming, Ryan Lochte has been the polar opposite. His antics at the London Games were legendary, giving birth to his own reality show and the bizarre catchphrase “Jeah.” For the Rio Olympics, the 12-time Olympic medalist decided to dye his hair silver, even as he tries to be more serious about his swimming. Mad Men‘s Roger Sterling would be proud.

After arriving home and having to explain himself for his fabricated robbery story, Lochte went back to his natural hair color.

Here’s a look at Lochte’s hair and his past looks.

1. Jennifer Jones, the Hairstylist Who Gave Lochte’s His Look, Also Styled Jimmy Fiegen’s Hair

The hairstylist behind Lochte’s new look is Jennifer Jones, who works at Akasa Salon in Atlanta and Lochte isn’t the only American swimmer she’s worked with. She also helped turn Jimmy Feigen into a silver fox.

Fiegen won a silver medal in London for the 4X100m freestyle. He also swam a leg of the 4x100m freestyle in Rio, as part of the team that won gold.

“New look…. Here We Go,” Lochte wrote on his Instagram page when he unveiled his new look.

2. Lochte insists It’s Not Really Silver & Calls it ‘Light Blue’

While the hair might look silver to most of us, Lochte’s first Instagram post with the hair included the hashtag “#lightblue.” Jones also said that the hair was blue, using the hashtag “#lochteblue.” Indeed, in her photo with Fiegen and Lochte, the hair does look blue on the side.

Unfortunately for Lochte, the hair is no longer blue or silver. Thanks to chlorine in the pool, the hair has looked green lately.

3. Lochte Underwent Laser Hair Removal for the Rest of His Body

While Lochte gets to have fun with the hair on his head, the hair on the rest of his body has to be removed. He told GQ before the Rio Games that he’s been shaving the rest of his body since he was 13 or 14. But he teamed up with Syneron Candela to use their Gentle Laser Hair Removal to make the process easier. He’s a brand ambassador for the company.

“When I tried that, I was like, this is like a goldmine. And it’s so much smoother than regular shaving, because I don’t have to worry about it growing back,” Lochte told GQ. “Because during the Olympics it’s like a seven-day meet. You always find yourself re-shaving throughout the meet. With gentle laser hair removal I don’t have to worry about that.”

In that same interview, Lochte admitted to signing up for Tinder after hearing how athletes at the Sochi Winter Olympics used it.

“I heard going back to the Sochi Olympics the athletes were using Tinder in the Village and everything, so I started using that,” he said. “So we’ll just have to wait and see.”

After London, Lochte tried just about everything to stay in the public spotlight. One of those attempts was an E! Network reality series called What Would Ryan Lochte Do?. It was an eight-episode series, but only five episodes aired before E! yanked it from the schedule.

In one episode, Lochte explained why he got rid of the long, curly hair he sported for years before London.

“The key to the Lochte hair cut is being fresh and up to date,” he said as he winked to the camera. “I used to have long, curly hair… Long hair, don’t care. I thought about it and I was like, ‘You know, it’s time for a change.”

He added, “Now that I have this clean-cut look, I want a girl to be like, ‘Damn! What? You see that guy? He’s a good-looking guy.'”

Lochte isn’t the only star athlete to go for a platinum look. Two weeks ago, soccer star Lionel Messi’s girlfriend, Antonella Roccuzzo, posted a picture on Instagram, showing the Argentinian player with platinum blond hair. However, in a photo posted a day ago, Messi was back to brown hair.
