Triple H shocked the world on Monday Night Raw this week when he came out of nowhere to attack Seth Rollins and ensure a Kevin Owens victory. Now speculation is running rampant that this will lead to a match at WrestleMania 33.
Dave Meltzer reports on Wrestling Observer Radio via Daily Wrestling News that last night’s story twist may be the set up to a Seth Rollins vs. Triple H match at next year’s WrestleMania. Fans may recall that this was the original plan for WrestleMania 32, but it had to be scrapped when Rollins injured his knee and needed time off to recover. He was not able to participate in the show.
Ultimately, the main event of WrestleMania 32 was a match between Triple H and Roman Reigns, but this was not received nearly as well as a match with Rollins probably would have been. When Roman Reigns defeated Triple H, the crowd erupted in boos, not exactly the best note to end the biggest WWE event of the year on. That was the cap to an already poorly-received WrestleMania; the next night on Raw, when Vince McMahon asked the audience how they felt about the event, he was met with even more boos.
It’s speculated that Rollins, who has been one of the company’s most prominent heels in recent years, will experience a face turn following this Triple H attack. After all, it looks like he’ll be feuding with two heels in Kevin Owens and Triple H, and the betrayal opens up a perfect opportunity for Rollins to fulfill the role the WWE probably had in mind for Finn Balor prior to his shoulder injury. In fact, the plan with Balor was reportedly to have him face off against Kevin Owens in September, so maybe that won’t need to be altered all that much after all.
We’ll have a much better sense of where the WWE is going with this after the fallout of Triple H’s attack is dealt with next week on Raw.
WrestleMania 33 will air on April 2, 2017.
