A feud between WWE superstars Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens may be on the way.

Over the past few days, Rollins and Owens have been trading blows on Twitter regarding the WWE Universal Championship. It began when Rollins said that his middle name might as well be “next Universal Champ.” Kevin Owens responded less than a half hour later, saying that he would be earning the title on Monday and even subtly mocking Rollins for not capitalizing Raw in his tweet.

Rollins shot back, asking how many of his followers wanted to see him put Owens in his place, calling his fellow superstar a “chump.” Owens quickly responded by saying that Rollins must have meant to write “champ.”

Their back and forth continued until they came to some agreement that Rollins isn’t nearly as bad as Owens’ recent enemy, Sami Zayn.

So is this the beginning of a major Seth Rollins vs. Kevin Owens feud on Monday Night Raw? It certainly seems so. WWE creative is evidently looking to give Kevin Owens a major push, as the plan for Finn Balor prior to his injury was reportedly to have him feud with Owens. This would have lead to a match between Balor and Owens at the Clash of Champions pay-per-view, which would end in a way as to set up a Triple Threat match at Hell in a Cell between Finn Balor, Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho.

This obviously can no longer happen, as Balor is going to be out of the ring until at least early 2017. But if true, the report still indicates that there’s a major role for Kevin Owens going forward, and a Seth Rollins feud seems perfect for him.

As well, if the WWE is looking to give the Universal Championship to an unexpected outsider, as they did with Balor, Kevin Owens would be a logical second option. He will battle Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns and Big Cass on August 29th’s Monday Night Raw.

The WWE has also more and more been playing up off-camera drama that leads to major storyline shifts on the show itself. Last week, for instance, The Miz blew up at Daniel Bryan on Monday Night Raw, accusing him of letting all his fans down by getting injured and retiring. When this moment happened, many viewers wondered whether it was scripted, but reportedly this moment was planned and intended to set up an ongoing storyline where superstars taunt Bryan for not being able to wrestle.

Having Rollins and Owens go after one another on Twitter before a Monday Night Raw feud, then, would make a lot of sense. We’ll see how things develop when Monday Night Raw goes live tonight at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the USA Network.
