A match between The New Day and Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson has been announced for SummerSlam 2016.

The news came on Monday morning via the official SummerSlam Twitter account. This match will see The New Day defending their WWE Tag Team Championship. Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods have held this title since August 23rd, 2015, when they won it at SummerSlam 2015.

The New Day and Anderson & Gallows have been feuding on Monday Night Raw in recent episodes, and this culminated last week in Big E being seriously injured by the team (within the storyline, that is). We’ll find out on tonight’s episode how serious that injury was and whether it could take Big E out of action for the SummerSlam match. The image above, tweeted out by the WWE, suggests Big E will likely be absent.

It’s widely speculated that The New Day will lose their title to Gallows and Anderson during this match. They’ve held on to it for quite a while, and although fans love the power of positivity, many viewers feel it’s time to give someone else a shot at the championship. Gallows and Anderson are also in serious need of a push, especially after being broken up from A.J. Styles during the WWE Draft.

If The New Day loses at SummerSlam, that means they will have just missed a full 365 days as WWE Tag Team Champions.

SummerSlam is looking to be quite exciting, with this match adding on to an already jam-packed card. Also scheduled for the pay-per-view is Brock Lesnar vs. Randy Orton, Seth Rollins vs. Finn Balor, Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler, Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte, The Miz vs. Apollo Crews, and John Cena vs. A.J. Styles. The event will be broadcast live from Brooklyn, New York on August 21st on the WWE Network.
