LeSean McCoy will be missing Week 7 and beyond, according to a recent report from ESPN’s Josina Anderson. The Bills offense has been on fire lately, spurred by the promotion of Anthony Lynn to offensive coordinator. With a solid matchup Sunday against Miami, Gillislee could explode as one of the top running backs heading into the second half of the season.
Gillislee has been limited in action this season, but has proven to be an explosive when given the opportunity. He has three touchdowns this season on just 20 touches. Last week he had six carries in the fourth quarter of Buffalo’s blowout of the 49ers, but still managed to explode for a 44-yard touchdown in garbage time.
Why is Gillislee so important for fantasy? Through six weeks, no team has run the football more than the Buffalo Bills. Think the Cowboys have been pounding the rock? The Bills have 32 more rushing attempts, almost a full game’s worth.
Combine that with Buffalo’s depth chart, featuring a noticeable lack of running backs. The Bills got rid of Karlos Williams in the offseason, and primary backup Reggie Bush has three carries since Week 1.
With the relative lack of quality running backs in the NFL, Gillislee could become the most active back in the league by November. McCoy is out with a hamstring injury, the kind of
muscle injury that can linger and persist throughout a season.
Pick up the former Florida Gator, and put him in your lineup for Sunday. Miami is 25th in the NFL in rushing, surrendering 4.5 yards per attempt. This could be the guy that changes your season.
