The 46th NYC Marathon was the busiest to date, with over 50,000 runners taking to the streets of New York City. The participants, mostly running for charity, start on the iconic Verrazano bridge and make their way through the five boroughs of New York City. They'll pass through all five boroughs of the city during the 26.2 mile course, and cross over five bridges.
The masses run for a cause, but a select few run for glory and cash. Over $800,000 in prize money was awarded this year, with prizes in various age ranges. The biggest prizes go to the elite runners, a division that was once again dominated by African participants.
In addition to the world's most famous distance runners, some notable celebs are NYC Marathon participants. Catfish creator and New Yorker Nev Schulman is a regular entrant, but this year's notable names also includes Rudy actor Sean Astin, former Giants running back Tiki Barber, and 2013 Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli.
