Tonight on Monday Night Raw, Sasha Banks finally gets her rematch against Charlotte following the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Could The Boss reclaim the WWE Raw Women’s Championship? Plus, Chris Jericho will presumably have to deal with the consequences of his interference in last week’s main event, and in the tag team division, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson are once again coming after The New Day. The show will be broadcast live from Charlotte, North Carolina at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time on the USA Network. Read on for match results and spoilers, followed by a preview of the night’s events written earlier this afternoon.
8:00 – Chris Jericho opens an episode of The Highlight Reel, introducing his best friend, Kevin Owens.
Kevin Owens enters. He mocks the audience for celebrating Thanksgiving last week, saying that he and Chris Jericho are superior because they’re Canadian. Deciding to play along with the holiday, though, Owens says he’s thankful for being the WWE Universal Champion, for being the face of the WWE’s premiere show, and for his best friend, Chris Jericho. Jericho says he’s thankful for Owens, for his rad scarf, and for Seth Rollins. To be specific, he’s thankful that Seth Rollins proved to him what happens when you let ego and pride take over your life. Jericho says that Kevin Owens beat Seth Rollins fairly and that he didn’t interfere at all; what actually happened was that Sin Cara interfered, and he was wearing a Chris Jericho mask.
Kevin Owens says that Seth Rollins isn’t medically cleared to be here tonight following his match last week. Just as Owens says that, Roman Reigns enters. Reigns says that Kevin Owens being the Universal Champion is a huge joke. Owens says it’s hilarious when Roman Reigns calls himself “the guy.” Reigns says that Kevin Owens needs help with everything, which is why he keeps Chris Jericho around. Owens says he doesn’t need Chris Jericho, but Reigns says that if Jericho wasn’t around, Owens would have lost the title long ago.
After what Roman said, Chris Jericho prepares to add Roman Reigns to the list, but Kevin Owens interrupts Jericho and tells him to shut up. Owens talks back to Roman Reigns himself, and Reigns says they should have a match tonight. If he wins, he gets an opportunity to win the Universal Championship. Owens accepts.
8:22 – Backstage, Chris Jericho confronts Kevin Owens for his outburst a few minutes ago. He also says that he’s always there for Owens, yet Owens says he doesn’t need him. Owens says that whenever Chris Jericho helps, it just makes it look like Owens can’t defend himself. Both of them say they don’t need each other, with Jericho adding that he doesn’t need Owens as a best friend anymore. Mick Foley enters, and Jericho says Foley doesn’t have to ban him from ringside because he’s done helping out Kevin Owens.
8:23 – Braun Strowman defeats R. Truth in a match that lasts less than a minute. After the match ends, Sami Zayn runs in and goes after Strowman. He doesn’t stand much of a chance, though, with Strowman quickly taking him out. Strowman is getting ready to unleash hell on Zayn before multiple referees, and Mick Foley himself, stop him.
8:31 – After the commercial break, Mick Foley defends his decision to stop the match, saying that Sami Zayn will never quit and is at risk of doing serious damage to himself. Zayn says that if anything, he needs to be saved from Foley, a general manager who has forgotten who he is and where he’s from. Foley says that Strowman is a monster who will destroy Zayn, but Zayn asks how many times Foley was told he couldn’t do something. Foley is now nothing more than a hypocrite, Zayn says before walking away.
8:35 – Backstage, Dana Brooke offers Charlotte details about her after-party celebration tonight. Charlotte says that tonight she comes home to secure her legacy as the greatest female superstar of all time.
8:39 – Tony Nese defeats Cedric Alexander.
8:53 – Chris Jericho is on his way out of the building when he’s confronted by Seth Rollins, who beats up Jericho while asking if he just made the list.
9:02 – Sasha Banks fights Charlotte for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship. About five minutes in, the match ends in a count out, and so Charlotte would then become the winner and retain her title. But Mick Foley enters, saying that this feud deserves a better ending than this. He tells them to take a break, as the match will resume later tonight, this time with no count outs and no disqualifications. Also, falls will count anywhere.
9:13 – Rusev fights Enzo Amore. The match ends in a disqualification when Rusev kicks Amore in the testicles. Amore therefore wins by disqualification.
9:26 – Backstage, Mark Henry is doing an interview about his new movie. He’s interrupted by Titus O’Neil, who is quite angry and who says that Henry stole his role.
9:27 – Rich Swann defeats Noam Dar. After the match, Swann singles out Brian Kendrick, saying that Kendrick is doubting himself ahead of their match tomorrow night on 205 Live. He points out that he already beat Kendrick twice, and tomorrow night, the third time will be that much sweeter.
9:42 – At a bar, Cesaro and Sheamus argue about whose fault is is that they lost to The New Day last week. Everyone else at the bar makes fun of them, and so Cesaro and Sheamus beat these random people up. At the end of the fight, they start to bond.
9:50 – Roman Reigns defeats Kevin Owens, earning himself a championship opportunity.
10:15 – Backstage, an extremely upset Kevin Owens can barely have a full conservation with an interviewer, freaking out on her.
10:20 – In an interview, Paul Heyman said he and Brock Lesnar thought his match against Paul Heyman would be the easiest of his career, but they screwed up.
10:25 – The New Day defeats Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, retaining the Tag Team Championship.
10:42 – Backstage, Sasha Banks tells Bayley that tonight’s match is about respect, as Charlotte has disrespected everyone around her over and over again. Bayley wishes her luck.
10:48 – Sasha Banks defeats Charlotte and becomes the new WWE Raw Women’s Champion. As falls count anywhere, the match spills into the crowd, with The Boss taking down Charlotte on the steps with a Banks statement that forces Charlotte to tap out.
11:08 – After the match ends, Ric Flair enters. He walks into the ring, holds up Sasha Banks’ arm and gives her a hug.
At Hell in a Cell last month, Sasha Banks suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Charlotte, losing her WWE Raw Women’s Championship title. Banks had to put aside her hatred of Charlotte at Survivor Series, but now that that’s over, she’s finally getting her rematch on Charlotte’s home turf in North Carolina. The Women’s Championship title has been passed back and forth between Charlotte and Banks over the past few months, with neither women holding on to it for very long. Could The Boss earn back the belt this evening? The fact that she was able to make Charlotte tap out on last week’s Raw might spell trouble for the Queen.
Plus, last week during the main event, Chris Jericho was banned from ringside so that he could not interfere in a match between Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins. But to the surprise of no one but Mick Foley, Jericho interfered anyway, attacking Rollins and allowing Owens to score the victory. Is Foley going to put his foot down and punish Jericho? Or will interrupting matches continue to be something that makes the authority angry but that has no actual consequences?
Meanwhile, The New Day is preparing to surpass Demolition and become the longest-reigning tag team champions of all time, but fresh off a victory against The Golden Truth, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson hope to be the ones to end The New Day’s title run. Can they actually be successful this time?
Over in the cruiserweight division, Rich Swann defeated TJ Perkins and Noam Dar in a triple threat match last week, making him the number one contender. Is Brian Kendrick in danger of dropping his cruiserweight title? Can the WWE make anyone but hardcore wrestling fans care much about this division? And finally, Enzo Amore and Rusev will apparently continue a feud that started when Amore wandered around backstage without any clothes on. Only on Monday Night Raw.
