The Browns are running out of chances.
The 0-14 Browns host the Chargers in their home finale on Saturday, wanting nothing but a win for Christmas. The Chargers are a four-point favorite according to OddsShark.com, and they can guarantee at least a close game in Cleveland this week.
San Diego can’t help but play close games. 12 of their 14 games this season have been decided by one score, and they are 1-4 both straight and ATS in their last five games. Injuries have slowly derailed the Chargers, the most recent loss being Melvin Gordon. The Chargers are 5-9, but with some better luck, they could’ve easily been a playoff team this year.
The Browns haven’t covered the spread since October, and the return of RG3 hasn’t made much of a difference. It doesn’t help that they’re last in the NFL in rushing attempts; a side effect of trailing other teams for 14 weeks.
If the Browns want to steal one before the season’s end, they’ll need to win the turnover battle. The Chargers lead the NFL in giveaways, so maybe they’ll be feeling a little generous this holiday season.
Even if Rivers throws a few, it’s a good bet that Griffin will give at least one back. It almost feels dirty picking against the Browns at this point.
Heavy’s Pick: Chargers 26 Browns 16. Chargers -4. Under on the Point Total. (43)
