The top spot in Group F is on the line Wednesday when Real Madrid host Borussia Dortmund. It is Madrid’s first match since Saturday’s Clasico, when Sergio Ramos netted a late header to force a 1-1 draw. But it was Dortmund who scored the late goal when these teams first met in September, and that result will be enough to satisfy the visitors on Wednesday.
Borussia Dortmund only need a draw to win Group F, while Madrid need all the points. Madrid have automatically qualified regardless, but manager Zidane has stated that his team is “Playing to win.” Dortmund have injuries to deal with, as Maro Gotze didn’t make the trip to Spain and Marco Reus may be out with flu-like symptoms. Madrid should be getting Toni Kroos back in the lineup, after missing almost a month of action with a foot injury.
