There is no longer any doubt as to who can claim the title of fastest horse in the world. That honor goes to Arrogate, who easily topped the field at the inaugural Pegasus World Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Arrogate and California Chrome fought to a photo finish last November during a thrilling Breeders’ Cup Classic and thus entered this race as co-favorites, but it was Arrogate, ridden by Mike Smith and trained by Bob Baffert, who raced to a dominant six-length victory and the $7 million first-place prize at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, while the 2014 Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner fell to the back-half of the 12-horse field.
Shaman Ghost finished runner-up to earn the second-biggest chunk of the record-setting $12 million purse, followed by Neolithic and Keen Ice.
