Devonta Freeman: Falcons Back Produced at Florida State


Long before Devonta Freeman was running through NFL defenses, he was dominating the ACC for Florida State. Freeman rushed for 2,255 yards and 30 rushing touchdowns during his three seasons at Tallahassee.

Freeman ran a 4.58 40-yard dash at the Combine. The Falcons selected Freeman with in the 4th round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Freeman was selected with the 103rd overall pick in the draft.

At 5’8″ and 206 pounds, Freeman has to use his speed and elusiveness to punish opposing defenses.

He has been a big part of the success of the Falcons offensive success. During his three seasons in Atlanta, he has rushed for 2,383 yards and 23 touchdowns. Freeman has also been heavily involved in the passing game. He has 1,265 career receiving yards and six touchdowns.

Freeman’s college coach Jimbo Fisher spoke with the Orlando Sentinel about his relationship with Freeman.

“He said Coach, thank you so much for the opportunity you gave me. And he said ‘I’ll never take it lightly the opportunity Florida State gave me with a scholarship to change my life.’ Today, he calls back now, he comes back 2-4 classes a year, trying to finish up his degree. He’s about done. He literally does everything in the world to go get that degree and appreciates that opportunity. He’s now in his second Pro Bowl. He’s now in his first Super Bowl,” Fisher told the Orlando Sentinel.
