Alexa Bliss made history this past week by becoming the first woman to win both the Raw Women’s Championship and the SmackDown Women’s Championship; she earned the former title after defeating Bayley at Payback.
The Wicked Witch of the WWE’s real name is Alexis Kaufman, and she is a 25-year-old from Columbus, Ohio. She’s currently engaged to Buddy Murphy, another WWE wrestler.
So what information has been made available about the relationship between Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy? Here’s what you need to know.
1. They Had a Storyline Together on NXT
While they were on NXT together, Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy were paired up in a storyline.
Starting in 2015, Alexa Bliss formed an alliance with the tag team Blake and Murphy, which consisted of the wrestlers Buddy Murphy and Wesley Blake.
As part of the storyline, Bliss would often interfere in matches and help Blake and Murphy win; it was by forming an alliance with them that she actually originally turned into a heel character.
Eventually, though, Bliss and the tag team went their separate ways.
“Blake & Murphy were winners, I was a winner, and winners usually gravitate toward each other,” Bliss said in a WWE.com interview conducted firmly in character. “They helped me, so I helped them in any way I could. I knew they were able to retain their NXT Tag Team Championship on their own, but when the matches weren’t going the way they wanted, I made sure to step in. We were an unstoppable group. We worked well together, we all trusted each other, and we knew each other’s strengths and weaknesses. That’s what made our relationship good in the beginning.”
In 2016, Alexa Bliss was called up to the main WWE roster, debuting on SmackDown Live. Buddy Murphy remains on the NXT brand; recently, he performed with Shinsuke Nakamura as Nakamura said goodbye to NXT.
2. They Both Love Disney World
Anyone who follows Alexa Bliss off screen knows that she is obsessed with everything Disney.
It seems that her fiance shares that passion, as Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy are frequently seen going to Disney World together.
This past January, they went to the theme park together, and Bliss showed off her love for Toy Story.
Weeks later, Bliss went back to Disney World in February and then in March of 2017, although it doesn’t seem that Buddy Murphy was with her for either of these trips.
Bliss and Murphy have also taken trips to the neighboring Universal Studios theme park, also stopping by Harry Potter World.
3. They Only See Each Other For a Few Hours a Week
Keeping up a relationship became much more difficult for Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy in the summer of 2016, when Alexa Bliss was drafted to SmackDown Live but Buddy Murphy remained on NXT.
“With our traveling, we used to see each other seven days a week and work together six days a week because I was partnered with Blake and Murphy,” she said in an interview with Gorilla Position in April 2017. “Now, we see each other maybe six hours a week.”
Bliss went on to say that they frequently communicate via text and FaceTime, and she joked that she’s sure he’s probably annoyed with the fact that she is calling him every other minute.
Although long distance can always be hard, Bliss thinks that it has actually made their relationship stronger.
She explained in an interview with Gorilla Position, “It’s one of those things that we’ve had to adapt to for sure, but I think if anything it’s made us stronger because you have to have that trust and know that, you know, I’m super proud of him and everything he’s accomplished in NXT, and he’s super proud of me, and we watch each other’s matches all the time, and he always texts me after every segment on SmackDown, and I know he’s watching and we’re in it together.”
It’s true that the two are very supportive of each other, and Murphy is constantly live tweeting episodes of SmackDown Live and Raw and retweeting Alexa Bliss GIFs.
4. They Have Two Dogs, Teddy & Izzy
Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy have two dogs at home who they take care of: Teddy and Izzy.
Bliss used to also have a cat, Matt, who was her pet since childhood. But sadly, Matt died in March shortly before WrestleMania.
“I picked Matt out when I was 4 years old,” she wrote on Instagram. “This tiny sickly kitten that the pet store refused to sell us , but My Mom was persistent because I knew he was the one I wanted :) Matt has been with me almost my entire life. We would play fetch, he would jump into the bubble bath, knock cups of water off of the counter, keep the other cats & dogs in line, and if you were talking too much… he would quiet you with his paw on your mouth haha.”
5. They’ve Been Engaged Since Christmas 2015
Alexa Bliss and Buddy Murphy are engaged to be married.
This became clear in January 2017, when Murphy shared a photo of himself with Bliss accompanied by the caption, “Me & my best friend, and wife to be!”
However, they had already been engaged for a full year by that point; they just never went public with the news. Bliss revealed in an interview with Gorilla Position that she and Murphy got engaged around Christmas 2015.
Some fans had suspected this to be the case, as in a photo posted to Buddy Murphy’s Instagram account in March 2016, Bliss is wearing an engagement ring.
Bliss told Gorilla Position that the wedding has not taken place yet just because their lives have become incredibly hectic and because she was drafted to SmackDown Live around the time the wedding was originally going to be.
