Derek Jeter and Hannah Davis Jeter have been married since 2016. The couple met back in 2012 and dated quietly for a few years before becoming engaged. Shortly after tying the knot, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child together.

Derek Jeter was honored at Yankee Stadium on May 14 when his former team officially retired his number (2). A very pregnant Hannah Jeter was by his side, supporting him on one of the biggest, most rewarding nights of his career.

The Jeters currently split their time between New York and Florida.

Here is what you need to know:

1. They Welcomed Their First Child on August 17

Derek and Hannah Jeter welcomed their daughter, Bella Raine Jeter, on August 17, according to Derek’s website, The Player’s Tribune.

The couple announced their exciting baby news in the aforementioned blog post. The two have expressed their excitement in starting this new journey together and starting a family is something that they have both been looking forward to. Derek Jeter, 42, has previously said that he wanted to wait until he retired before having kids. He retired in 2014.

“He already has a name in mind — he’s set on it. (We’ll see.) He’ll say when he calls me during the day: ‘So, how are you and so-and-so doing?’ ‘That’s not the name yet, sweetie.’ Whatever her name is, I know she’ll run circles around him,” Davis Jeter wrote.

Earlier this year, Hannah Jeter told People Magazine that she had been having a hard time deciding on a name for the couple’s daughter.

“I don’t like anything now, that I’m hearing. But that’s probably ’cause I’m just an emotional hot mess lately. So everything, I’m like, ‘Never, I could never name her that!’ So we’ll see,” she told the magazine.

2. They Were First Spotted Out Together in Tampa, Florida

In March 2012, Jeter was spotted with his new girlfriend at a Starbucks in Tampa, Florida. He was in town for Spring Training at the time and the two seemed to be on casual date. The pair was later spotted dining at a Tampa-area restaurant, determined to remain low-key.

A few months later, the new couple was spotted having dinner at Double Seven (now closed) in New York City’s Meatpacking District, according to the New York Post.

“They were flirting, having a great time, and were sitting close together,” a witness told the outlet.

“They are an item on the quiet. Derek and Hannah left separately, but she met up with him again later,’ another source said.

Derek Jeter owns a home in Davis Island in Tampa. According to Home Building, the mega mansion boasts seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, two 3-car garages, and boat docks for 5 boats. There has been some controversy surrounding the estate, as the former shortstop sought permission to put up a higher, more private gate in front of the compound, to the dismay of some of his neighbors.

3. They Got Engaged After 3 Years of Dating

The couple was introduced to one another by a mutual friend while at a restaurant in New York City in 2012. At the time, Jeter had recently broken up with actress Minka Kelly after four years together. He and Davis ended up hitting it off and dated casually for a while before things got serious. Despite having a steady girlfriend, Derek Jeter chose to stay quiet about the budding romance.

Derek Jeter popped the question in 2015. While speculation had been running wild for weeks, the former New York Yankees shortstop casually made a not-so-official announcement in a post on his website.

“I had no idea what I was in for as a new dog owner. He was a Christmas gift last year from my fiancée, whose family had Mastiffs growing up. I’ve never owned a pet in my life,” the Yankee superstar posted on November 3, 2015. The post was meant to introduce the world to his dog, Kane, but it did so much more.

This marked the first time that Derek Jeter referred to his girl as his “fiancée.”

4. They Got Married at Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in St. Helena, California

The couple became husband and wife in front of an intimate gathering of family and friends at the Meadowood Napa Valley Resort in California. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and offer a stunning backdrop to any wedding ceremony.

“Meadowood weddings are timeless. It is our tradition to hold celebrations throughout the year as every season on the estate is as beautiful and magical as the next. The landscape changes in color and character and reception settings transition from starlight to firelight,” Meadowood wedding director Lauren Bates says on the resort’s website.

Hannah Jeter wore a custom Vera Wang mermaid-style gown during the wedding ceremony and later changed into another Vera Wang gown. The second dress was a halter featuring “white illusion tulle detail at the waist and a double silk georgette A-line skirt accentuated by side godets,” according to Us Weekly. Her groom looked dapper in a classic black suit.

5. Davis Jeter Admits She Thought Derek Jeter Was a Pitcher

Hannah Jeter, 27, is a model who has worked in the fashion industry for several years. However, growing up in St. Thomas, Yankees baseball was never really her thing. Although she had spent a lot of time in New York City, she never actually knew who Derek Jeter was.

In a guest blog post that she wrote for her now-husband’s website, The Players’ Tribune, Hannah Jeter admitted that she wasn’t as tuned in to sports at the rest of the world.

“I thought he was a pitcher. I know it sounds strange that I didn’t know he was a shortstop. When a mutual friend introduced us while I was at dinner with my mom in New York, I didn’t really know who Derek was at all. I can just imagine all of the New Yorkers reading this right now thinking, Oh, come aawwnn. They probably don’t believe me. You probably don’t believe me. But it’s true. Don’t get me wrong: I’d been living in the city for a couple of years — and I know I saw Yankees hats and probably a Jeter jersey or two (or 100), but they didn’t register. I grew up in the Virgin Islands, on St. Thomas, which is only about three miles wide. Baseball wasn’t really ‘a thing.’ We didn’t have professional teams to obsess over so I was never a baseball fan.”
