NBA Mock Draft 2018: Michael Porter & Luka Doncic Are Players to Watch

While Heavy has you covered in the final few weeks leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft, there has been increased intrigue over the 2018 NBA Draft. We're going to press the pause button on 2017 just for a few minutes as we look ahead towards the 2018 draft. Two names, in various order, are atop the early prospects list for next year's draft. Fans are already debating the merits of Luka Doncic and Michael Porter Jr. as to who has the early lead to be selected with the top pick in 2018. While Doncic is originally from Slovenia, the shooting guard plays for Real Madrid in Liga ACB. ESPN draft analyst Chad Ford holds Doncic in high regard. "He is quite simply the most heralded international prospect I've ever scouted. At age 17 he [was] already starting and averaging eight points a game in the best league in Europe. He's a highly skilled wing with an elite basketball IQ, the ability to score from everywhere on the floor, superior court vision and solid athleticism. He plays like a veteran already. Some teams worry a bit about his lack of elite explosiveness and lateral quickness -- and that's the only reason he isn't topping our board at the moment. The scouts who know Europe best say he's a once-in-a-decade prospect," Ford writes.

Porter has put his college commitment drama behind him as he flipped from Washington to Missouri. Porter is a great athlete who can play multiple positions and already has the size of an NBA player. DraftExpress provides a nice snapshot of his game. "Porter has a very unique blend of tools and skills that translate quite well to today's NBA. At 6'10" he can grab and go in transition, space the floor, attack in a straight line and finish above the rim in space. He also shows flashes on the glass and as a defensive playmaker," DraftExpress notes. Since no one knows exactly how the 2017-18 season will play out, Heavy based the draft order on the early Vegas championship odds courtesy of OddsShark. Each player's class is based on what they would be at the time of the 2018 draft. For example, current high school players are listed as freshman as we project them forward.
