NBA Mock Draft 2018: Michael Porter & Luka Doncic Are Players to Watch

No. 1 Boston Celtics (via Nets): SG Luka Doncic, Real Madrid

Team: Real Madrid

Position: Shooting Guard

Size: 6'8"/185 pounds

Age: 18 years old

Outlook: Get prepared to hear a lot about Luka Doncic over the next year. Doncic is the early front-runner to be next year's top pick. Doncic is originally from Slovenia but plays for Real Madrid. What Doncic lacks in athleticism, he makes up for with his handles and variety of crafty moves. Doncic has a pure shot and also has the ability to attack the rim. He is playing well in Europe despite just turning 18 years old and playing against older players. DraftExpress' Jonathan Givony describes a recent outing from Doncic and why NBA teams are falling in love with his game. "Only one other 17-year-old in Euroleague history (dating to 2000) was able to secure a rotation spot at such a young age: Ricky Rubio in 2007. Doncic is blowing Rubio’s production out of the water thus far, thanks to his superior size, frame, perimeter shooting ability and equally impressive feel for the game. While it’s easy to fall in love with Doncic’s ball-handling, creativity, ability to play all three backcourt positions, and the confidence at a young age, it was a pair of spectacular blocks, showing unexpected timing and quickness off his feet, that left the strongest impression against Milan," Givony writes. In case you were wondering, yes, the Celtics get the Nets pick again next year which appears to have a good chance of being a very high lottery pick barring some sort of miraculous off-season in Brooklyn.
