The 2018 FIFA World Cup is quickly drawing closer and will begin on June 14, 2018, in the host nation Russia. While there is still quite a bit of qualifying to be done, there are also a few teams who have booked their spots into the world’s biggest tournament.
While the best soccer teams in the world will come together after going through a rigorous qualifying structure, the one-month event is typically one of the most-watched sporting events in the world. With that said, let’s take a look at the betting odds for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, via Intertops, beginning with Germany, who are coming off a victory at the 2017 Confederations Cup.

Obviously, these odds are going to change as certain teams qualify and others are eliminated. For now, though, much of this looks about like what fans probably expected. But, one of the best parts about the World Cup is that surprise teams can come out of the woodworks, or teams who have large odds can even wind up making a push toward the championship.
While Germany and Brazil are both the expected favorites, it wouldn’t be shocking to see any team from Spain and France at +800 down to Colombia at +2500 get quite a bit of betting action. Colombia, for example, has shown their ability to compete with the best teams in the world, as they drew 2-2 with Spain in mid-2017 and lost just 1-0 against Brazil earlier in the same year.
Germany is a young squad with a ton of upside, while Brazil is always a team to be feared. An interesting underdog candidate could wind up being Chile, as they made it to the 2017 Confederations Cup Final and lost 1-0 to Germany. They’ve also made it to the Round of 16 in each of the last two World Cups, losing in heartbreaking fashion in 2014 to Brazil in a penalty shootout.
