News of Tennessee’s potential hire of Greg Schiano as the new Tennessee head coach is being panned by many Vols fans, citing court testimony that Schiano had knowledge of Jerry Sandusky’s abuse at Penn State. According to The Washington Post, former Penn State assistant Mike McQueary testified Schiano was one of several coaches who knew about Sandusky’s abuse.

The Washington Post detailed former Penn State assistant Mike McQueary’s testimony in a 2016 article.

McQueary, who testified in Sandusky’s 2012 criminal case that he had told [Joe] Paterno of seeing Sandusky rape a boy in 2001, said in the 2015 deposition that he had ‘briefly’ discussed with [Former Penn State assistant Tom Bradley] what he had seen.

‘He said another assistant coach had come to him in the early ’90s about a very similar situation to mine, and he said that he had — someone had come to him as far back as early as the ’80s about seeing Jerry Sandusky doing something with a boy,’ McQueary said.

According to McQueary, Bradley identified Schiano, now the Ohio State defensive coordinator, as the other assistant. In response to a question about whether Bradley had shared details of what Schiano had said, McQueary related a conversation with Bradley.

‘No,’ McQueary replied, according to the documents, ‘only that he had — I can’t remember if it was one night or one morning — but that Greg [Schiano] had come into his office white as a ghost and said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower. And that’s it. That’s all he ever told me.’

Schiano began as a Penn State graduate assistant in 1990 then was promoted to defensive backs coach in 1995. In an interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Schiano denied he had witnessed Sandusky’s abuse.

“I never saw any abuse, nor had reason to suspect any abuse, during my time at Penn State,” Schiano told ESPN.

The potential hire has caused Tennessee state representatives to publicly voice their disapproval of Schiano. Rep. Jason Zachary tweeted he has reached out to Tennessee athletic director John Currie to try to stop the hire. Zachary tweeted the following:

I have reached out to @John_Currie and others in administration at UT expressing that WE as a TN Community do not approve of Schiano. #higherstandards

Rep. Eddie Smith tweeted out a similar statement.

Our Tennessee standards mean something, and a Greg Schiano hire would be anathema to all that our University and our community stand for. I sincerely hope that these rumors are not true, because even serious consideration would be unacceptable.

In case you are wondering, Merriam-Webster defines anathema as someone “intensely disliked or loathed.”

There are also football reasons for fans skepticism. Schiano’s most recent tenure as a head coach did not go well. Schiano spent two seasons (2012-2013) as the Tampa Bay Bucs head coach, going 11-21 before being fired. Those looking for hope in Schiano coming to Knoxville could look at his time as Rutgers head coach, and point to the NFL being much different than college football.

Schiano spent 11 seasons as Rutgers head coach, enjoying the most success the program has seen in decades. Schiano won at least eight games in four out of his final five seasons at Rutgers. Schiano has spent the last two seasons at Ohio State serving as defensive coordinator under Urban Meyer.

Despite Schiano’s denial of the court testimony, many Tennessee fans are angered by the potential hire. Here was some of Twitter’s reaction to the news of Tennessee hiring Schiano.

Hey John why don’t you go meet your beloved Jesus and go off your self you loon.

Satan is good now go bugger off you twat

Let me guess!… Jereyou!… you’ve been suffering the effects of numerous concussions to your head (and… probably, by way of wacks from your teachers for not paying attention in class!), and you’re embarrassed by the additional revelation, that your favorite pasttime, and “heros”, may be as BRAINDEAD as you! Well… it is time to WAKEY WAKEY,, Jereyou!… and help those who are experiencing the same sporting/ scholastic “fate”! Otherwise!… you may wind up remaining a NET TROLL for the rest of your life! In other words, Jereyou, don’t be a BIRDBRAIN!… and assist your current fellow WACKEES, and potential WACKEES! Oh, BTW!… it’s rather SEXIST and TWITISH of you, Jereyou, to use the pejorative epithet, twat, in your sad– but failed!– attempt at circumlocutory obfuscation! And no!… Satan is not GOOD!… and he– and his followers!– won’t be satisfied, until everyone in America is BRAINDEAD!
Please!… no emails!… Jesus is Lord!

In an article titled, 110 N.F.L. Brains, in the The New York Times, by authors, Joe Ward, Josh Williams and Sam Manchester, dated July 25th, 2017… and “conveniently blurred”, and copying made “deliberately problematic”!… Neuropathologist Dr. Ann McKee, is reported to have amassed evidence of “chronic traumatic encephalopathy (C.T.E.!… the degenerative disease believed to be caused by repeated blows to the head!)”, afterupon her examination of 202 deceased football players (a broad survey of her findings were published on the preceding Tuesday, July 18, 2017, in the The Journal of the American Medical Association!… the myriad symptoms of which, include memory loss, confusion, depression and dementia!… and can arise years after the “career blows to the head”!)!
Of the 202 players examined, 111 of them played in the N.F.L.– and 110 of those were found to have C.T.E.!
Simply put!… the term PUBLIC SLAVERY is an apt description for those who support both football, and boxing!… and, underscores the degree of “DEMOANASTROPHOPATHY (i.e., pathic public behavior!)” rampant in America! And!… the one major omission within Dr. McKee’s official report, is the etiology (the causation!) associated with the “PUBLIC BRAIN DAMAGE” tied to the public acceptance of football!… but also– I suggest!– boxing!
Lastly, given what sundry of the CRIMINAL BACKERS of these “sports” are capable of (and e.g., the respective team backers and the managers!), I fear for the safety of the political critics of these “industries”!… and!… I wonder what MANMADE TRAGEDY awaits such critics, as a result of their public shaming of the owners and operators of these American pastimes! Either the TRUE MEDIC(IC) COMMUNITY… AND SCIENCE!… wins the “social debate” over the UTILITY of these “sports (so-called!)”, or the DEMOANASTROPHOPATHY wins (and, in the latter scenario, that includes the owners, players, and the DISEASED PUBLIC!… and, DESPITE THE EVIDENCE– THE FACTS!)!
Please!… no emails!… Jesus is Lord!
