For the first time in well over one year, Paige is reportedly set to appear on WWE TV. According to numerous reports, the former WWE Women’s Champion will make her return to the squared circle on the November 13 episode of Monday Night RAW.
Paige was spotted in Atlanta at the site of RAW, PWInsider reported. It’s the go-home show before WWE’s Survivor Series on Sunday.
In recent days, Paige has posted several photos and videos on her Instagram account teasing her return. In one video posted November 12, one of her friends is wearing her ring outfit as whe comes out to her entrance song.
A photo taken several hours later was with fellow WWE Superstar Alicia Fox.
If the reports are accurate, it would be Paige’s first time appearing on WWE TV since July 2016, when he mother said she was on a hiatus from wrestling due to a neck injury. A few weeks after the news of her injury, though, the WWE announced that she was suspended for 30 days for violating the company’s wellness policy. While serving that suspension, the WWE tacked on another 60-day ban after she reportedly violated the policy once again.
However, Paige and her family denied the reports, saying through social media reports that the reason she tested positive was for a prescription.
The WWE fired back at Paige, though, saying in a statement provided to the New York Post in October 2016 that Paige — whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis — “tested positive for an illegal substance, not a prescription drug.”
“In addition, WWE is providing world-class medical care for her in-ring injury,” the statement said.
The WWE’s wellness policy is a program that says it’s “administered independently by world renowned medical professionals and includes cardiovascular testing, ImPACT, testing for brain function, substance abuse and drug testing, annual physicals, and health care referrals.” If Paige were to violate the policy a third time, it could have resulted in termination from the company.
While the injury and subsequent suspensions were the reasons for her hiatus from the company, she also had several incidents during her time off that made headlines.
First, there were several sexually explicit videos and photos of Paige that were leaked by a hacker. She wrote a lengthy message on social media saying that the days that followed the leak made her feel as if she wanted to physically harm herself.
I made a big mistake. Huge. I put trust in the hands of someone that took advantage of a young girl years ago. It was my mistake and I’ll always take responsibility.
The one thing that was the hardest was thinking ‘my husband is gonna leave me’ ‘my family will disown me’ but I’m blessed beyond words to have a family and a husband that stuck by me because they know who I am. They know I’m not a bad person and they held my hands through hell.
During her time off, she also announced she was engaged to get married to Alberto El Patron — formerly known as Alberto Del Rio in WWE. Their relationship turned very public, and an incident this past July at Orlando International Airport nearly resulted in a battery charge for Paige.
According to Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet, the Orlando Police Department investigated a July 9 dispute between Paige and El Patron at the airport and “found probable cause to charge he with battery (domestic violence).” No charges ever ended up being filed.
In audio of the incident obtained by a witness, though, the two can be heard arguing and fighting near the airport’s tram system. The witness spoke to Heavy and claimed that she observed El Patron being abusive to her.
Paige addressed the story in a social media post, saying she was crying on the phone because her uncle fell seriously ill. She acknowledged that she was the one who was being held for battery charges, saying that her fiancee — at the time — never touched her.
“I wish, WISH people would give us the privacy we deserve,” she said. “I know we won’t get it. But I WISH that would happen.”
It appears that Paige and El Patron have ended their relationship. Satin wrote in a November 10 article that Paige clarified on Snapchat that she was single. Her friend, Jenna, posted a video of Paige Thursday night in which she jokes, “this is why I’m single.” Sources told Satin that the couple recently broke up and called off their engagement.
It should certainly be interesting to see how the WWE moves forward with Paige back on TV.
