RB Mike Weber, Ohio State
Matchup: vs. Rutgers
Weber is not exactly cheap this week, but I expect his price tag to continue to rise this season. Weber is the fifth highest-priced running back this week for the early slate of games. All Weber did last week is have 20 rushes for 186 yards and three touchdowns. Many speculated J.K. Dobbins would be Ohio State's workhorse back, but Weber was the better runner in Week 1. He battled through injuries in 2017, but looks to be back in the form we saw from him two seasons ago. While both running backs should get carries, look for Weber to be the better back this week. Weber opted to return to Ohio State this season rather than enter the NFL draft, and spoke to 247 Sports about what went into the decision.
"He [Urban Meyer] was just telling me I had to come in and compete," Weber explained to 247 Sports. "Anywhere I go I’m going to have to compete. If I got to the NFL, I’m going to have to compete. And that’s all I want. I just wanted a chance to compete. And he told me that with J.T. (Barrett) not being here, there’s going to be a lot more load on the running backs and that’s what I wanted to hear. If I got a chance to compete and an opportunity to get the ball then that’s all I need."
The situation with Urban Meyer does not seem to have impacted the team so far, and it is not something that fantasy owners need to factor in when constructing your lineup. If you are looking for a cheaper option, I like Western Michigan running back LeVante Bellamy at $3,900 as lottery ticket play in bigger tournaments. Bellamy has a difficult matchup against the Wolverines but notched over 30 points in Week 1 on DraftKings. Michigan's Karan Higdon should get plenty of carries as Michigan's offense looks to bounce back in a plus matchup against Western Michigan.
Nebraska's freshman running back Maurice Washington is going to be used this season like a Swiss-army knife in Frost's offense, and is a solid lottery ticket option at $4,100. Speaking of new offenses, Bolu Olorunfunmi received the most carries of any UCLA back in Week 1. He did not do much with it, notching just 10 DraftKings points thanks to a touchdown. UCLA does not have a great matchup against Oklahoma, but Chip Kelly wants to utilize running backs in his offense. Olorunfunmi has a $4,700 price tag and could end up being a nice play this week.
