LSU’s Joe Brady Agrees To New Contract Extension: Report

LSU passing game coordinator, Joe Brady, has agreed to a new contract extension with the university through a memorandum of agreement.

According to Sport’s Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, the LSU assistant has signed an agreement with the school that as of now would grant the passing guru a three-year contract and more than double his current salary.

Dellenger says the deal prevents Brady from accepting any other assistant positions in college football but would allow him the opportunity to take a head coaching positions as well as a position in the NFL.

Brady’s Impact

Brady has been credited by many as the mastermind behind the remarkable transformation of the LSU offense this season. Under Brady’s tutelage, the tigers have seen a massive jump in almost all offensive categories while arguably playing the toughest schedule in college football.

The new passing scheme implemented by Brady helped LSU quarterback, Joe Burrow, throw for over 5,000 yards and 55 touchdowns while posting a 204.6 passer rating in 2019. Burrow would go on to win the Heisman Trophy.

Brady’s influence on Burrow has transformed the Ohio native from an average collegiate quarterback to the likely first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. In 2018, Burrow through for only 16 touchdowns and over 2,894 yards.

Burrow’s touchdown passes more than tripled in Brady’s scheme and he nearly doubled his passing yardage in 2019. Burrow’s passer rating also increased by close to 70 points while his completion percentage jumped almost 20 points.

Brady’s impact on the LSU cannot be understated. However, the impact of the tigers offensive coordinator, Steve Ensminger , as co-play caller to Brady must also be recognized.

Ensminger was flexible enough to allow Brady to give his input on the offense. Through their collaboration they were able to create one of the most potent offensives in the history of college football.

Brady brought the innovation and Ensminger brought the stability. Together these offensive minds created a system that seems nearly impossible to defend.

What’s Ahead for LSU

LSU will look to complete their perfect season when they play Clemson in the College Football national championship game on Monday.

The game will be played in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. In a crazy but not unprecedented circumstance LSU will basically have the luxury of playing a home game for the national championship.

Win or lose on Monday night, LSU will have a precarious situation on their hands once the season ends. Many NFL teams will be clamoring to have Brady join their respective staffs.

The creativity of the young passing game coordinator has not gone unnoticed and many NFL front offices will be looking to add that innovation to their offensive attack.

In a league that is continuing to become more creative in its offensive schemes and play calling, Brady would serve as almost a perfect fit.

LSU’s hopes of returning to the national championship game next year could solely rely on their ability to keep their coaching staff in tact.

The magic that this coaching nucleus has created is rare and it should not be taken for granted.

There will be some major priorities for LSU this offseason but keeping Brady should be at the utmost importance.
