The New England Patriots will go into Week 1 with a few surprising players on the inactive list including quarterback Jarrett Stidham.

All of the Patriots’ Inactive Players For Week 1

After such a promising training camp, it was a bit of a bummer not to get an opportunity to see rookie Josh Uche play in Week 1. Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal was surprised as he though the Michigan alum had a chance to start.

As it is, Uche still figures to play a major role for the Patriots this season, but his debut will have to wait. Recently recalled rookie Cassh Maluia doesn’t have as much hype, so his absence from the active list wasn’t as much of a surprise. The same can be said for rookie tight end Dalton Keene. Imagining the impact he could potentially make on what is already shaping up as a formidable jumbo package for the Patriots is exciting. We’ll have to wait to see that come to fruition as well.

Stidham being inactive is further proof of how far away the Patriots think he is to helping this team win football games. Some thought he’d be the second quarterback on the depth chart, but that wasn’t the case as that spot was occupied by Brian Hoyer.

As it turned out, the Patriots didn’t need him as Cam Newton led the team to a 21-11 victory.

The Dolphins’ Inactive List

The Patriots might have missed the playmaking ability rookie wide receiver Lynn Bowden could have provided as the Patriots’ defense held Miami to just 11 points, and really one long drive the entire game. The Patriots’ secondary was phenomenal with three interceptions and several more passes defended. Overall, it was a strong team win.
