Two of the AFC’s best teams collide when Philip Rivers leads the Los Angeles Chargers (8-3) into Heinz Field to take on Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3-1) as Week 13 action continues with Sunday Night Football.
The game is scheduled to start at 8:20 p.m. ET and will be broadcast nationally on NBC. If you don’t have cable or can’t get to a TV, you can still watch a live stream of the game (or DVR it) on your computer, phone or streaming device by signing up for one of the following cable-free, live-TV streaming services:
NBC (live in 31 NFL markets) is included in FuboTV’s main package, which includes 85 total channels and is largely tailored towards sports fans. The Steelers are currently leading the AFC North, but the Baltimore Ravens won their seventh game of the season on Sunday, matching Pittsburgh’s win total. The Chargers are hovering around in the AFC West race, but home losses against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 1 and Denver Broncos in Week 11 means Los Angeles would likely need to finish ahead of Kansas City in order to secure the division.
The Chargers will be without star running back Melvin Gordon. Gordon has a knee injury that currently makes him “week to week.” This means others need to step up on the Chargers, specifically Rivers — who completed 28 of 29 pass attempts against the Arizona Cardinals last week, an NFL record — and wide receivers Keenan Allen, Tyrell Williams and Mike Williams.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that he has emphasized cleaning up turnovers with his team. Two weeks ago, Rivers threw two interceptions and threw the football away late in the game, which allowed the Broncos to march for the winning score. Last week, James Conner fumbled in Mile High against Denver, sealing a 24-17 loss for Pittsburgh.
“If you look back at the last eight quarters of football for us as a football team it’s something that we have to tighten up and tighten up rather quickly. We’ve turned the ball over some on offense. We have to do a better job of safeguarding and preserving it in everything that we do, whether it is passing or running with the football.
On the defensive side of the ball save the last snap of the game in Jacksonville (two weeks ago), we’ve played eight quarters of football without creating a turnover and I think you can’t have one discussion without the other.”
The AFC playoff picture became a bit clearer Sunday. Six teams control their destiny, while the Broncos, Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins are all hovering at .500.
