Nets general manager Sean Marks said Wednesday that "all signs point to" Simmons (back) being available to start next season's training camp, Tim Bontemps of ESPN.com reports. Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy in mid-March to alleviate the nerve impingement in his lower back, marking yet another injury-related setback for the 2017 No. 1 overall pick. The 27-year-old has played in only 57 games across the last three seasons, but when available, he has shown he can still be an active defender and excellent playmaker. Simmons has one more year remaining on his current contract, a five-year extension he signed with Philadelphia in 2019.

Latest Nets News
Ben Simmons : On track for training camp
Jalen Wilson : Struggles with shot
Wilson totaled nine points (4-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt), nine rebounds, one assist, two blocks and one steal over 32 minutes during Sunday's 107-86 loss to the 76ers. Wilson ends his rookie campaign in a 2-for-10 slump from beyond the arc, but his 35.6 percent clip on 1.6 threes per game through his first 38 appearances is a decent foundation. Wilson's strength is his top trait, however, with upside to carve out a defensively-oriented role with rebounding juice in the future. The 23-year-old logged a limited sample of under 600 minutes this season, but he ranked in the 88th percentile for defensive rebounding and 97th percentile for offensive rebounding among all wings.
Cam Thomas : Scores team-high 18 in finale
Thomas supplied 18 points (5-12 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 5-6 FT), three rebounds and two assists over 27 minutes during Sunday's 107-86 loss to the 76ers. Thomas leading the team in scoring despite a 21-point defeat is emblematic of Brooklyn's 2023-24 campaign. While Thomas' 55.4 true-shooting percentage isn't exactly worthy of being an offensive engine, his tough-shot making and ability to get buckets versus all types of defenders has solidified him as a top isolation scorer of the next generation. Thomas ascended to career-high marks of 5.0 free-throw attempts and 6.0 three-point attempts per game this season, creating true multi-level productivity to help balance his scoring diet.
Noah Clowney : Continues flashing talent
Clowney totaled 16 points (5-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 4-5 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal across 41 minutes during Sunday's 107-86 loss to the 76ers. Clowney's versatility was on display across Brooklyn's last six contests, posting at least four blocks on two occasions, as well as grabbing 10 rebounds on two occasions, while Sunday marked his third game with 15-plus points and multiple made threes. The 6-foot-10 rookie lacks a defensive niche, but if his shot continues developing and he proves to be able to defend in space, Clowney has the makings of a future rotation player.
Mikal Bridges : Season ends on low note
Bridges amassed eight points (3-8 FG, 2-5 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist across 25 minutes during Sunday's 107-86 loss to the 76ers. Bridges operated in a limited workload for the third consecutive contest with Brooklyn's season being inconsequential in the bigger picture down the stretch. Nonetheless, Bridges' inefficiency mirrored his past 15 contest in which he connected on just 39.9 percent on 12.9 shots per game. The 27-year remains an elite two-way player, but substantial evidence arose this season suggesting Bridges may not be a go-to, No.1 option in an offense, and that attempting to be one is damaging to his defensive intensity.
Jaylen Martin : Out against 76ers
Martin (ankle) won't play against the 76ers on Sunday. Martin will wind up missing the Nets' final three games of the season due to a left ankle sprain, which he sustained while playing last Sunday in the G League Long Island Nets' loss to the Maine Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals of the G League playoffs. Despite being signed to two-way contracts with the Knicks and Nets for much of the season, the 20-year-old Martin still has yet to make his NBA debut.
Cameron Johnson : Remains out Sunday
Johnson (toe) won't play in Sunday's game versus the 76ers, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports. Johnson will miss his second straight contest Sunday while dealing with a left big toe sprain. The 27-year-old forward will end the 2023-24 season averaging 13.4 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 27.6 minutes across 58 games, including 47 starts.
Day'Ron Sharpe : Won’t play season finale Sunday
Sharpe (wrist) is out for Sunday's game against the 76ers, Evan Barnes of Newsday reports. Sharpe ends the regular season having missed three of Brooklyn's last six games, and while the game had some ups and downs throughout the campaign, he ended up scoring in double digits in 15 different appearances despite playing mostly off the bench. The third-year big man averaged 6.8 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists across 15.1 minutes per game this season, with each of those figures representing career-high marks for him.
