If you just got an email in your inbox from an unknown sender, it is pretty easy to determine the person behind the address. We’ll show you how, using the Vibe app. The process is quick and painless.
1. Get the Free Vibe App

You can use the Vibe app in one of two ways: as a Google Chrome browser extension, or as a Mac App. You can learn more about the app on the official Vibe site.
To download the free Chrome extension version of Vibe, visit the Chrome webstore.
To get the Mac OS Beta version of Vibe, visit the Vibe site and register for a free account. You will then be prompted to download.
The Chrome version of the app does not require registering with Vibe, and lets you get started with the app a bit faster than the Mac OS app. However, the Mac version will work on any email addresses displayed on your desktop, not just addresses shown in Chrome.
2. Choose the Email Address You Want to Investigate
In Chrome, all you have to do is hover your cursor over the email address. After a few seconds, a window will pop up with a picture of that person, their real name, a brief bio, and even some of the topics they are interested in. This info is pulled from the person’s social networking profiles.
If you’re using the Mac version of Vibe, a purple Vibe icon will appear at the top of your screen, next to the clock and your Wi-Fi icon. Click on it to search an email address.
The Vibe video above can walk you through any additional questions.
3. Use Vibe Anytime You Want More Info About a Person
— Kate Bussmann (@KateBussmann) February 26, 2014
Vibe is simple and fast to use. It is a good tool for determining what mysterious person is behind the email you just received. It is also a good way to learn more about a new friend or business contact before you meet in person for the first time.
Do note that Vibe is still in Beta. As such, it may not always have full information for a given address.
