Today’s the day we learn whether all those Samsung Galaxy S5 rumors were true. At the Samsung Unpacked 5 event earlier today, the company revealed all kinds of info about the features and specs on their flagship smartphone. Here’s everything you need to know about this phone, straight from horses’s mouth.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be released on April 11. The Verge reports that the Galaxy S5 will cost $199.99 with a two-year contract.
1. Speed and Security
Citing a need for meaningful and relevant innovations in the daily lives of their customers, Samsung aims to create phones that blend design, camera technology, fitness, and connectivity. On top of that, the phone also needs to be fast and secure.
The phone offers the most stable and speedy Wi-Fi available: Wi-Fi MIMO 802.11ac. This nearly doubles Wi-Fi connection speeds on your smartphone. There’s a download booster that adds Wi-Fi to LTE to download a gigabyte in just 30 seconds.
There is a fingerprint scanner that allows you to quickly make secure payments with your fingertip. Your fingerprint also unlocks “private mode” files that are only visible when your fingerprint is logged in.
There’s also a family-friendly “Kids Mode” that makes the phone safe for kids. This allows better parental control over content on a shared phone.
2. Camera and Display
Fast, hybrid auto-focus using technology that has never been used in a smartphone before. Faster camera response time. The auto-focus works in .03 seconds, the fastest auto-focus available on a smartphone.
Enriched color with advanced HDR is another great feature. This instantly controls light exposure in real time, ensuring life-like image contrast. This HDR feature also works when shooting video. Selective focus lets you adjust the depth of field like a professional photographer.
The screen is full HD AMOLED, clocking in at 5.1 inches. Local contrast enhancement automatically changes the display under changing light conditions to make it easy to see in the dark and in bright sunlight. The adaptive display optimizes your screen to give you the best viewing experience possible.
Designed to work with Galaxy Gear fitness line. Real time fitness coaching services that can be tailored to each user. There are three new Galaxy Gear offerings: the Samsung Gear 2, the Samsung Gear 2 Neo, and the Samsung Gear Fit. The latter is the most “stylish” option, designed to fit the contours of your wrist.
The Galaxy S5 can transfer your playlist to a Gear 2 smartwatch for hands-free music during a workout. The S Health app on the Galaxy S5 phone tracks data from your Galaxy Gear watches, or data that has been added manually. Exercise, food, sleep, stress, and weight management advice can all be accessed on the phone.
The phone itself has a heart rate sensor built into the back of the case. No other phone on the market does this.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is IP67-rated water and dust resistant. Samsung says you can use the phone in the shower or in the rain safely. You still can’t submerge the phone, however.
5. Ultra Power Saving Mode
Ultra power saving mode turns the display to B&W, and shuts down all features except for SMS and calls. When your phone has 10 percent battery charge, it can last for 24 hours on standby in this mode.
6. Case Design

The S5 comes in variety of color options. The back cover’s perforations make it comfortable to hold, but with a modern glam look that catches the light. Colors are coppery gold, charcoal black, shimmery white, and blue.
7. Longer Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy S5’s battery offers 10 hours of web surfing on LTE, or up to 12 hours of video playback.
