WhatsApp Messenger is a messaging app available for iOS and Android devices. With the app, you can send text messages, pictures and video messages to your friends and family using your 3G/4G data or WiFi. Here’s a guide on how to use WhatsApp Messenger.
1. Download the WhatsApp Messenger App
Head on over to the Google Play Store or App Store and download WhatsApp Messenger.
You will need to confirm your country code and enter in your mobile number. WhatsApp Messenger will then send you an SMS with a confirmation code to complete your activation. New WhatsApp members will get to enjoy 1 year of free service, and then it will cost $0.99 a year.
2. Edit Your Profile
You will be asked to create a profile upon signing up. With your profile, you’ll need to upload a photo and enter your name to receive notifications. If you have a Facebook account, you can import your Facebook information. Tap ‘Done’ and WhatsApp will automatically add all of your contacts that currently use WhatsApp. Whatsapp contacts will be added to the ‘Favorites’ section of the app. You can edit your ‘Favorites’ anytime you want.
3. Update Your Current Status
You have the option to update your current status to the following: ‘Available,’ ‘Busy,’ ‘At the Movies,’ ‘Battery About to Die,’ ‘Can’t talk,’ ‘WhatsApp only,’ or you can make your own status by tapping on the box under ‘Your Current Status is.’
4. Chat With Your Friends
To chat, tap on your friends contact information and start typing in the message field. By tapping on the arrow, you can take a photo or video, choose from existing photo or video, share your location or share contact. You can also record voice messages to send to your friends by tapping on the ‘Microphone’ icon.
5. Change Chat Wallpaper
By tapping on ‘Settings’ and tapping on ‘Chatting Settings,’ you can change your chat wallpaper. You have the option to import an image from your photo library, or you can browse through the WhatsApp Messenger Wallpaper Library.
6. Back Up Your Chat History
To back up your chat history, tap on ‘Chat Settings’ and ‘Chat Backup.’ Here you can back up your chat history to iCloud. You also have the ability to restore your chat history if you install WhatsApp again, regardless of the device you’re using. All media will be backed up except videos.
