1. LifeProof Fre iPhone 6 Case

lifeproof iphone 6 case

(LifeProof)

LifeProof is widely considered to be one of the best iPhone case brands out there. While these cases are pretty expensive, these rugged cases are worth the investment for anyone who wants to protect their iPhone 6. The Fre case will protect the phone far better than a cheap case, allowing it to withstand hard impacts, submersion in water, snow, and windblown dirt/sand. If you often exercise outdoors, this rugged case will keep your device safe in any weather.

One thing that can be a little annoying about this case is the fact that you need to keep track of a headphone adapter. It’s honestly not that much of a hassle, but for people who are prone to forgetting items they need when they head out to the gym, it’s definitely something to consider. The adapter is just barely big enough to fit on a keychain.

Price: $79.99

Buy it here.

Pros:

  • Rugged, yet surprisingly thin
  • Premium build quality
  • LifeProof offers tons of additional accessories, such as a flotation device for water use (iPhone 6 compatible versions of these accessories are coming soon)
  • Feels more secure than the LifeProof Nuud (which isn’t out for the iPhone 6 yet anyway)
  • Submersible

Cons:

  • Speaker output and call quality may be affected by case
  • May make screen look dim
  • Difficult to access ports
  • Annoying if you lose audio adapter
  • Expensive

3. UNU DX 6 Protective iPhone 6 Battery Case

(UNU)

(UNU)

A lightweight battery case is the perfect accessory for anyone who hates to cut their workout short. If you use multiple apps during your workout, you know that your battery will run down fast. Between a calorie tracking app, a GPS app, and streaming your favorite music, a long run or extended training session at the gym can totally tap the iPhone 6’s relatively small battery. A solid option for extending your battery life is the UNU DX 6 iPhone 6 battery case.

The folks at UNU were nice enough to provide us a sample of this case so we could go hands-on. There’s a lot to like here. The case has a simple LED power gauge on the back, and the LED’s color will indicate the current charge level. Unlike some other battery cases that use a four LED system to indicate 100, 75, 50, and 25 percent charge, the LED system is a bit different here. With this case, a green light means the charge is between 100 and 70 percent. A blue light indicates a charge between 70 and 30 percent. A red light indicates the case is between 30 and five percent charged. When the charge dips below that level, the red light will blink. The battery itself clocks in at 3000mAh, which essentially gives you 125 percent more battery life. That means you’ll get at least 18 hours of additional talk time.

The two-piece slider design makes this case really easy to remove, and overall the case just feels really nice in your hand. Other battery cases I’ve used in the past are a bit hard to re-assemble. This case was by far the easiest battery case to install or remove, at least in my personal experience. The only thing some people might not like about this case is the lack of button covers. While some people prefer cases that don’t cover the buttons, some find that a button cover makes pressing the buttons a bit less awkward. It’s a matter of personal preference. Overall, this is a solid battery case that will appeal to anyone who needs more battery life. It also comes with a screen protector and a microfiber cloth, which is a nice perk.

Price: $69.99 (30 percent off)

Buy it here.

Pros:

  • MFi certified
  • Charge and sync through the same cable
  • One year warranty
  • Adds hours of talk and surf time
  • Surprisingly lightweight

Cons:

  • Soft touch texture can make it a bit hard to grip with sweaty hands
  • Some users may prefer a case with battery covers
  • Somewhat limited color options compared to other battery case brands
  • Some users may prefer a LED gauge that’s calibrated differently
  • One user review stated case interfered with calls (I did not experience this issue)

(Incipio)

Looking for a thin, lightweight case that won’t break the bank? The feather-light “Feather” case from Incipio is a great option, especially for people on a budget. It’s available in multiple colors, and it is quick to install. Unlike some cases, which have multiple pieces or take a little finesse to put on, the Feather case takes mere seconds to pop on or off. Another great feature of this iPhone 6 case is the flash-diffusing coated camera ring. Some iPhone 6 cases have a known problem with the camera, but this case should allow you to take shots unimpeded by camera flash distortions. (Seidio)

(Seidio)

Recently highlighted by TUAW, this waterproof case and holster combo is a nice alternative to the LifeProof Fre case. Waterproof cases are great for anyone who is afraid of spilling water or a protein shake on their device while at the gym, and the case is also up to the task of repelling any errant beads of sweat that land on your phone.
