What Do 8-Year-Old Girls Want For Their Birthday?

Eight is a fun age, isn't it? There's a lot of growing and learning and entertainment in store for both kids and parents alike. And, our list of the best 101 toys for 8-year-old girls is packed with all kinds of awesome picks and trendy toys, but our answer to that question is going to seem rather obvious: think about your kid.

What are they into? What are their interests? Ultimately, that's where the magic happens - toys and gifts specific to them. Here are some other helpful tips and tricks to giving the best gifts:

Don't think BIG, think Wow-Factor

Physically big toys definitely impress, but the gifts that always get the biggest reactions are the ones with all kinds of wow-factor. How best to find those gems? Ask your kids! If they really want something, they'll let you know. Be sure to pay attention throughout the year. Chances are they'll drop subtle hints without ever realizing - commercials, favorite TV shows, and movies, books, video games. They all serve as sources of inspiration and set the trends for what's going to be hot.

Age Isn't Everything

While age recommendations are helpful, they're not always right. If your child has a particular brand they absolutely adore but you're worried they're too old to play with them, it may be worth considering whether to drop that rule in favor of getting them something you know they'll love. You'd be surprised how many parents religiously stick to age recommendations instead of what their child likes.

Tech Toys & Imaginative Play

We'll get into some fun ideas in a bit, but tech toys always dazzle. And, thankfully, there's a lot of awesome items to pick from: gaming consoles, Lego sets Nintendo Switch, and interactive dolls are always good choices and are sure to impress.

But, just remember, make sure it's something specific to what your child likes to play with.

Nintendo Switch & Nintendo Switch Lite: Best Big-Ticket Gifts For 8 Year Old Girls

We're just going to say it: the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite are all the rage right now. They're definitely on our list of the best toys for 8 year old girls, but we feel it's important to call more attention to them becuase, well, they're just plain awesome.

If you're questioning whether a video game console is really the best thing to give to a kid, hear us out. There are actually some benefits to "gaming" it up these days - and it's not just because we're spending more time at home.

Video games actually help with hand/eye coordination, motor, and problem-solving skills, and have even shown to build self-confidence and help with social development skills. Heck, with the right game, they can even get some exercise. Pretty cool, huh?

We recommend the Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch Lite because of how family-friendly the games are. Nintendo as a company is built around making games specifically for kids, whereas other companies - mainly Sony and Microsoft - tend to gear games towards teens and adults.

So, what are the differences?

The Nintendo Switch can be hooked up to a tv and also works as a handheld tablet-like console, hence the name Switch. It's pretty awesome and offers the flexibility to play anywhere and on any screen.

The Nintendo Switch Lite, however, is purely just a handheld tablet-like console, which is why it's around $100 cheaper than the Nintendo Switch. The Switch Lite has a much longer battery and is preferred amongst parents because there's no fussing with cables and TV connections.

And, if you're looking for games, there are all kinds of awesome and age-appropriate ones available on Amazon right now. We recommend these: Luigi's Mansion 3, Lego DC Super-Villains, Mario Kart Deluxe, Super Smash Bros., Just Dance 2021 (which only works on the Nintendo Switch), and Pokemon Sword

Exploding Kittens, Throw Throw Burrito, Taco vs. Burrito

If you're looking for board games and card games, there are three we can't recommend enough: Exploding Kittens, Throw Throw Burrito and Taco vs Burrito.

Exploding Kittens

If you haven’t played Exploding Kittens before, you’re missing out. “Perfect for adults, teens, and kids who like kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats,” this is a fun and funny card game for everyone. It’s basically Russian roulette with kittens and it’s all kinds of awesome.

Made for kids 7 and up, we know your 8-year-old will love this.

Throw Throw Burrito

From the makers of Exploding Kittens comes an all-new and totally fun family game: Throw Throw Burrito.

Throw Throw Burrito blends a card game with dodgeball. We know..sounds odd...but trust us, it’s fun. Everyone tries to collect matching sets of cards faster than everyone else, while also ducking, dodging, and throwing squishy burritos – included, BTW. The cards you collect earn points, but getting hit by flying burritos loses them.

So, make some room, because you’ve never played a card game quite like this before. Made for kids 7 and up, we know your 8-year-old will love this.

Taco vs. Burrito

Taco vs Burrito is especially great because it was actually designed by a 7-year-old. Kids these days, right? It's kind of like Uno, but rather than numbers and color combos, you're actually collecting cards in an attempt to make the wildest and most outlandish meals possible. It's become a card game staple and it's totally fun and easy to play.

You can't go wrong with any of these toys for 8 year old girls, and we'll be sure to add more awesome toys and finds as the new releases hit the shelves.
