Moving is something the Fox family is plenty used to in John’s coaching career. John and his wife Robin have traveled across the country as the former has carved out a successful NFL life.

The former Panthers and Broncos head coach is now in Chicago with the Bears, one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. The Fox’s have already purchased a house in the area; John Fox signed a four-year contract with the team in January.

Here’s what you need to know about the rest of the Fox clan:

1. John Married his Wife Robin in 1985

John appropriately met his wife Robin on a flight. Fox was already a well-traveled coach at that time, and he met Robin while she was working as a flight attendant for American Airlines in the summer of 1984.

The two married in 1985 in St. Louis, but were unable to go on a honeymoon as the pair had to fly for a job interview. They recently celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary and Fox credits Robin for not only being a rock in his life, but saving it.

Robin is from St. Louis and once worked for the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.

2. The Couple Has 3 Sons & 1 Daughter

Both John and Robin came from strong family values, and they appeared to have passed that onto their four children. The three oldest are all boys — Matthew, Mark and Cody are all in their 20s — while daughter Halle is in high school.

Matthew and Mark both graduated from Elon University in the Greensboro suburb, while Cody studied sports management at NYU and is now in their law program. Cody once interned with the NFL in their media department.

3. John Had Heart Valve Surgery in 2013

Right in the middle of the 2013 season, Fox had to step away from the Broncos as he had aortic heart valve replacement surgery in Charlotte. The procedure is life-saving but comes with a host of risks.

Fox had a birth defect in his heart that was diagnosed in 1997. In 2013 the condition worsened when he felt dizzy and lightheaded during a golf round during the team’s bye week. However he was able to make a full recovery after the surgery and missed about a month of team activities.

4. The Fox’s Purchased a House in Chicago From a Former NFL Player

Once Fox became the Bears coach in January, he set on relocating his family to the area. In April, he purchased a $3.275 million house from former Bears wide receiver Tom Waddle. Waddle played for the Bears from 1989-1994 and had 2,109 career receiving yards.

The house was built in 2008 and measures more than 8,000 square feet and comes with about two acres of land.

Waddle, 48, is the co-host of a sports radio show in Chicago and has been in radio for close to two decades.

5. John is the Stepson of a Navy SEAL

Fox’s mother Kaye was married twice before meeting U.S. Navy SEAL Ron when Fox was a young child. Ron did three tours in Vietnam and was a commander.

Fox values tough players on his roster and it’s easy to see why.

John grew up in Virginia Beach and went to high school in the San Diego area. He learned to surf at age 10.
