Jaguars coach Liam Coen said Hunter will start off focusing on offense, John Oehser of jaguars.com reports. It's music to the ears of fantasy managers and Jaguars fans alike, giving Hunter the chance to earn a starting job on offense and potentially help spark a breakout season for QB Trevor Lawrence. The team wouldn't have given up such a massive haul to move up to No. 2 overall without intent to use Hunter on both sides of the ball, but it's hard to say what that might look like in terms of snap counts (and targets). Jacksonville already has a bona fide No. 1 receiver in Brian Thomas, whose presence arguably reduces the pressure for Hunter to handle large snap counts on offense, although that might not end up mattering long term if Hunter is as good as everyone seems to expect. Coen said Hunter will learn the team's defensive system and take some offseason reps on that side of the ball, even though the Jaguars want offense to be his priority for now.
Lawrence (shoulder) will be limited during the spring as he continues to recover from AC joint surgery, Mike DiRocco of ESPN.com reports. Lawrence underwent surgery on his left, non-throwing shoulder Dec. 17 and was in a sling until late January. While the Jaguars plan to bring him along slowly, he's expected to be fully cleared for the start of training camp later this summer. "We're optimistic that we'll get there in terms of where we need to go," coach Liam Coen said Wednesday. "He'll be on a pitch count for those things. In terms of the where he has to get to, because he has little touch points he needs to reach before he can obviously get out onto the grass and do it full speed, everything's moving forward. He feels really good right now, so excited about that." Lawrence relayed that he's "very optimistic" he'll be ready well ahead of Week 1.
The Jaguars exercised Walker's fifth-year team option for the 2026 season Monday. Walker has produced 24.0 sacks in 49 regular-season appearances (48 starts) since Jacksonville drafted him first overall out of Georgia in the 2022 NFL Draft. After a quiet rookie season, he had 10.0 sacks in 2023 and 10.5 sacks in 2024. Walker will have a fully guaranteed $14.75 million salary in 2026 after playing the final season of his original four-year, $37.37 million rookie contract in 2025.
Edoga is slated to sign with the Jaguars, Michael Dominski of The Athletic reports. Edoga appeared in five games (four starts) with the Cowboys in 2024. The veteran offensive lineman figures to hold down a depth role at left tackle with Jacksonville.
The Jaguars signed Hainsey to a three-year, $21 million deal Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The 26-year-old will reunite with head coach Liam Cohen, who served as Tampa Bay's offensive coordinators in 2024, now that he's signed a deal with the Jaguars. Hainsey started all 34 of the Buccaneers' regular-season games from 2022 to 2023 but started just one game in 2024, playing only 95 offensive snaps across 17 appearances. He will likely have the opportunity to compete for Jacksonville's starting center position this summer.
Mekari is in line to sign with the Jaguars on a three-year, $37.5 million contract, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Mekari moves on from Baltimore to begin protecting Trevor Lawrence in Jacksonville, where his arrival helps fill a hole along the interior O-line. The 27-year-old guard has only missed one regular-season game over the past three years.
Long is slated to sign with the Jaguars on a two-year, $5 million contract, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports. Long handled a reserve role while suiting up for all 17 regular-season games with the Rams in 2024, securing seven of nine targets for 60 yards. He also played a notable role on special teams. The release of Evan Engram (shoulder) leaves ample opportunities up for grabs in Jacksonville's tight end room, but Brenton Strange seems the current favorite to benefit most. New Jaguars GM James Gladstone boasts familiarity with Long's skill set, having spent nine seasons with the Rams from 2016-24, so he may have personal reasons to be optimistic that the tight end still has untapped potential for development.
