Heavy, a leading sports news and information website, partners with hard-charging freelance contributors to write about the most compelling storylines across sports.

We’re seeking motivated self-starters with an entrepreneurial spirit and a desire to make Heavy even more of a go-to destination for sports coverage, including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, fantasy sports and more.

Work autonomously and remotely. Heavy’s editors are available for support with best practices, standards, adding value and harnessing large audiences, but do not make assignments.

Compensation includes a monthly $500 retainer, and scales with performance.

Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • A passion for and deep understanding of their preferred sport (NFL, NBA, etc.)
  • A track record of professional sports coverage
  • Proven ability to vet, verify and confirm information
  • Ability to produce clean and polished copy
  • Understanding of SEO best practices
  • Ability and desire to react rapidly to on-and-off-field breaking news
  • Strong multi-tasking and communication skills
  • Ability to quickly navigate social media to spot news and find additional information after a story breaks
