The Giants signed Smith-Marsette on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Smith-Marsette fell short of making Carolina's initial 53-man roster in late August, but now he's found a spot on the Giants' active roster. The 25-year-old wideout is expected to assume New York's kick and punt return duties with Gunner Olszewski (groin) likely missing a couple months.

Ihmir Smith-Marsette : Joins Big Blue
The Giants signed Smith-Marsette on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Smith-Marsette fell short of making Carolina's initial 53-man roster in late August, but now he's found a spot on the Giants' active roster. The 25-year-old wideout is expected to assume New York's kick and punt return duties with Gunner Olszewski (groin) likely missing a couple months.
Darius Muasau : Nabs interception in NFL debut
Muasau posted six tackles (four solo) and intercepted a pass in a Week 1 loss to the Vikings on Sunday. Muasau had a successful NFL regular-season debut after being selected in the fourth round of April's NFL Draft. The linebacker recorded two particularly notable plays -- an interception of Sam Darnold late in the third quarter and a tackle of running back Myles Gaskin for a three-yard loss late in the fourth, though Minnesota was essentially running out the clock on the latter play. Muasau played 82 percent of New York's defensive snaps in the contest, earning that workload with his strong play. Per Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site, Micah McFadden was slated to be on a snap "pitch count" if Muasua struggled, but McFadden didn't end up seeing the field due to the rookie's performance.
Dexter Lawrence : Logs Week 1 sack
Lawrence recorded three tackles, including 1.0 sack, in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Lawrence sacked Minnesota QB San Darnold on the Vikings' first drive of the contest to help force a three-and-out. Though the Clemson product is considered one of the league's premier defensive linemen, he doesn't typically put up big sack numbers, and he recorded a modest 4.5 sacks last year. However, Lawrence's impact on the Giants' pass rush is monumental, as evidenced by his six quarterback pressures Sunday.
Tyler Nubin : Paces team in tackles Week 1
Nubin tallied seven tackles (five solo) in Sunday's loss to Minnesota. Nubin got the start at strong safety for New York and played all 55 of the team's defensive snaps. Meanwhile, Dane Belton -- who had at one point appeared to have won the starting role at the position -- played just nine defensive snaps, though it's not clear if the back injury that bothered him throughout the practice week contributed to his limited usage. Regardless, Nubin performed well in his first NFL game and appears set to be a key part of the team's defensive backfield moving forward.
Graham Gano : Makes both field-goal tries Week 1
Gano converted both of his field-goal attempts and didn't try an extra point in Sunday's Week 1 loss to Minnesota. Gano was one of the few bright spots for New York in the lopsided defeat, as he converted a 23-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 50-yarder in the fourth. It was a much better showing than he had in Week 1 last year, when the veteran kicker missed both of his field-goal tries. Gano's fantasy outlook this season could be dampened by a potentially low-performing Giants offense, but he at least appears to be back to full health after missing the team's final eight regular-season games last year due to a knee injury.
Carter Coughlin : Out for foreseeable future
Coughlin is expected to miss "months" after sustaining a pectoral injury during Sunday's 28-6 loss to the Vikings, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports. Coughlin played 10 special-teams snaps and failed to record a stat before leaving Sunday's contest with what appears to be a serious pectoral injury. The Giants are losing one of, if not their most impactful special-teams asset for the foreseeable future, and Ty Summers is expected to see more special-teams work in Coughlin's stead.
Jalin Hyatt : Rarely involved Week 1
Hyatt didn't catch his only target in a Week 1 loss to Minnesota on Sunday. Hyatt logged only 16 offensive snaps in the defeat, well behind fellow wideouts Malik Nabers (71), Darius Slayton (51) and Wan'Dale Robinson (48). That provides pretty clear evidence of where Hyatt is on the depth chart right now, though he could see significantly more opportunity Week 2 versus Washington on Sunday if Slayton is unable to clear the NFL's concussion protocol in time for the contest.
Daniel Bellinger : Clear backup in Week 1
Bellinger caught his only target for three yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings. Bellinger was listed as New York's No. 1 tight end on the team's first unofficial depth chart during the preseason and split first-team reps with rookie Theo Johnson throughout training camp, but he was clearly behind Johnson in the pecking order Sunday. While Bellinger logged just 16 offensive snaps (23 percent of the team's total), Johnson tallied 61 (86 percent), and even Chris Manhertz (20 offensive snaps) was on the field more often than Bellinger. Manhertz played primarily in two-TE sets and does most of his work as a blocker, so he's not a threat to Bellinger's playing time, but for the time being it appears that the Giants prefer Johnson as the starter over Bellinger at the position.
