Latest Giants News
Kyle Harrison : Stuck with loss in Saturday’s start
Harrison (0-1) took the loss Saturday as the Giants fell 3-0 to the Nationals, giving up two runs on five hits over four innings. He struck out four without walking a batter. The 23-year-old southpaw pitched well in his first big-league start of the season, tossing 43 of 57 pitches for strikes, but Harrison served up a two-run homer to James Wood in the first inning and the Giants' offense never woke up. With Justin Verlander (pectoral) on the shelf, Harrison will get at least one more turn through the rotation, and he should get stretched out enough to potentially qualify for a win next weekend in Miami. Through 9.1 MLB innings in 2025, Harrison has a 3.86 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB.
Jung Hoo Lee : Scores twice in win
Lee went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk in Friday's 4-0 win over the Nationals. Lee accounted for half of San Francisco's runs, recording at least one hit for the fourth straight game Friday. The 26-year-old outfielder also notched his third multi-hit performance over his last 10 games, during which he has slashed .268/.318/.488 with seven RBI, four runs scored, three doubles, two homers and a 3:6 BB:K across 44 plate appearances. While Lee struggled at the beginning of May, he now holds a .282/.330/.467 slash line with 32 runs scored, 31 RBI, 22 extra-base hits -- including six homers -- and three stolen bases across 212 plate appearances this season. Additionally, he has made consistent contact and owns a team-best 12.7 percent strikeout rate.
Landen Roupp : Delivers quality start in win
Roupp (3-3) earned the win Friday against the Nationals, giving up five hits and two walks while striking out two batters across six shutout innings. The Nationals couldn't get a runner past second base against Roupp, who did a great job keeping Washington quiet while inducing a healthy amount of groundouts. After pitching 12 consecutive scoreless frames over his last two starts, the 26-year-old righty has lowered his ERA from 4.73 to 3.63, though he'll surely be tested during his next outing against a Tigers offense that has scored the fourth-most runs in the majors this year (268).
Kyle Harrison : Joining Giants’ rotation
Harrison will start Saturday's game against the Nationals, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. He's absorbing the rotation spot vacated by the injured Justin Verlander (pectoral). Harrison has made four relief appearances since being recalled earlier this month, allowing two runs with a 7:3 K:BB over 5.1 frames. The lefty had been starting at Triple-A Sacramento but hasn't pitched more than two innings in over three weeks, so he's likely to have a limited workload versus the Nationals.
Tristan Beck : Recalled from Triple-A
The Giants recalled Beck from Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. He's taking the roster spot vacated by the injured Justin Verlander (pectoral). Beck has been used in a multi-inning relief role this season with Sacramento, posting a 3.24 ERA and 29:11 K:BB over 25 innings. He could offer some length out of the bullpen Saturday behind Kyle Harrison.
Justin Verlander : IL move made official
The Giants placed Verlander on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to a right pectoral strain, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Manager Bob Melvin revealed Wednesday that Verlander was bound for the IL and that transaction is now official. The veteran hurler began experiencing pectoral soreness prior to his last start over the weekend against the Athletics and was unable to make enough progress in between outings to avoid the IL. Verlander will be eligible for activation June 3, but it's too soon to know whether he will be ready to go on that date.
Patrick Bailey : Swats first homer of 2025
Bailey went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Wednesday's 8-4 loss to Kansas City. Bailey's home run drought ended Wednesday, as he hit his first homer of the season in his 138th plate appearance. The 26-year-old catcher has struggled at the plate, tallying a 30.5 percent strikeout rate and a meager .507 OPS overall. He hasn't recorded multiple hits in a game since May 6.
Heliot Ramos : Salvages day with late homer
Ramos went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run during Wednesday's 8-4 loss to Kansas City. Ramos started the day 1-for-4 with a pair of strikeouts before stepping up to the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning and tagging Lucas Erceg for a two-run homer. The 25-year-old has been on a tear lately, sporting a seven-game hit streak and batting 23-for-51 (.451) with four homers and 14 RBI over his last 14 outings.
