McAvoy received a six-game suspension on Tuesday for slashing Buffalo's Zach Benson. After reports that McAvoy would have an in-person hearing Monday for his slash during the first round of the playoffs, he was ultimately given the six-game suspension many thought he would face. Charlie McAvoy : Lands six-game suspension
McAvoy received a six-game suspension on Tuesday for slashing Buffalo's Zach Benson. After reports that McAvoy would have an in-person hearing Monday for his slash during the first round of the playoffs, he was ultimately given the six-game suspension many thought he would face. The 28-year-old blueliner will serve the suspension at the start of the 2026-27 regular season. McAvoy is coming off the best season in the offensive zone of his nine-year career with 61 points in 69 regular-season games, which he could still replicate next year if he can stay healthy.
Charlie McAvoy : Date set for in-person hearing
McAvoy will have an in-person hearing at the NHL Office on May 11 for slashing Buffalo's Zach Benson. After discussions of McAvoy having an in-person hearing for his slashing penalty in Game 6 of Boston's series against the Sabres, it has been officially slated for May 11. Depending on the results, the 28-year-old blueliner could face a six-game suspension or more to open the 2026-27 campaign. The Bruins will have to adjust in his absence, as McAvoy had a career year offensively with 11 goals and 61 points across 69 regular-season games.
Viktor Arvidsson : Had fractured rib, punctured lung
Arvidsson suffered a fractured rib and a punctured lung during the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Amalie Benjamin of NHL.com reports Sunday. Arvidsson sat out the final two games of Boston's first-round series loss to Buffalo, but he reportedly had a chance to play had the Bruins forced a Game 7 and avoided elimination at the hands of the Sabres on Friday. Buffalo emerged victorious in Game 6, so Arvidsson will have the summer to recover, and he should be ready for training camp in the fall.
Charlie McAvoy : Offered in-person hearing
The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Saturday that McAvoy was offered an in-person hearing for slashing Buffalo's Zach Benson on Friday. McAvoy could begin the 2026-27 campaign with a suspension of six or more games because of the incident. He produced 11 goals, 61 points, 111 shots on net, 129 blocked shots and 79 hits across 69 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. He also had two assists, 13 shots on goal, 13 blocked shots and 16 hits in six 2026 playoff outings during Boston's first-round series loss to the Sabres.
David Pastrnak : Scores in Game 6 loss
Pastrnak scored a goal in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Sabres in Game 6 of the first-round series. The Bruins couldn't extend the series to a decisive Game 7, but Pastrnak was active on the scoresheet. He scored two of the team's three goals in the final two games of the series and finished the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Bruins' leader in goals (three), assists (four), points (seven) and shots on goal (22). Pastrnak also notched 100 points (29 goals, 71 helpers) in 77 regular-season contests.
Jeremy Swayman : Tagged with loss Friday
Swayman stopped 22 of 25 shots in Friday's 4-1 loss to the Bruins in Game 6 of their first-round series. The fourth goal was an empty-netter at the 16:40 mark of the third period. Swayman kept the Bruins' season alive with an OT win in Game 5 on Tuesday. However, the Sabres got to him early in Friday's loss, scoring twice in the first period. Boston also didn't provide him with nearly enough support. Swayman ends the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 2-4 record, a 2.48 GAA and a .916 save percentage.
Nikita Zadorov : Played through torn MCL
Zadorov sustained a torn MCL in Game 3 of the Bruins' first-round series versus the Sabres, but the defenseman played through the injury, Conor Ryan of The Boston Globe reports. Given the severity of the injury, Zadorov's offseason training program is likely to be impacted. His status for the start of 2026-27 will be determined at a later time. Zadorov is under contract with the Bruins, so he'll be good to go for a shutdown role once he's healthy again.
Jeremy Swayman : Guarding goal Friday
Swayman will start in Friday's Game 6 at home versus the Sabres, Belle Fraser of the Bruins' official site reports. Swayman kept the Bruins' season alive with an overtime win in Game 5 on Tuesday, stopping 25 of 26 shots. The 27-year-old will look to repeat that feat on home ice to force a Game 7, which would be in Buffalo on Sunday. Swayman has allowed 14 goals on 156 shots (.910 save percentage) over the first five games of the first-round series.
