The Eagles picked up Carter's fifth-year option Monday, Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The cost to maintain Carter's services through 2027 comes at a hefty $27 million. The defensive tackle earned Pro Bowl honors in both 2024 and 2025, adding value to his fifth-year option. Carter missed multiple games due to various injuries last season, as well as being ejected in Week 1 for an incident involving him spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. When Carter was on the field, he produced 33 tackles (21 solo), including 3.0 sacks, and seven passes defensed over 12 regular-season games (really 11 since he was ejected before the first snap of Week 1).

Latest Eagles News
Jalen Carter : Expensive fifth-year option
Nolan Smith : Fifth-year option excercised
The Eagles exercised Smith's fifth-year option Monday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. Smith will earn another $13.7 million, guaranteeing his services to the Eagles through 2027. The linebacker is coming off a slightly disappointing season that was spoiled by a lingering triceps injury he originally suffered during training camp. Despite the issue, Smith still started 12 regular-season games, logging 31 tackles (15 solo), including 3.0 sacks. Headed into 2026 healthy, Smith will look to produce a year similar to his 2024 season (42 tackles, including 6.5 sacks), which would help greatly in long-term extension discussions with the organization.
Jonathan Greenard : Dealt to Philadelphia
The Eagles have traded a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft as well as a 2027 third-round pick to Minnesota in exchange for Greenard (shoulder) and the 244th overall pick of this year's draft, Lindsey Young of the Vikings' official site reports. Greenard also is signing a four-year extension worth up to $100 million with his new team, per NFL reporter Jordan Schultz. The veteran is coming off a lackluster 2025 campaign in which he recorded just 38 tackles (19 solo), including 3.0 sacks, across 12 regular-season appearances, but he totaled 24.5 sacks across the 2023 and 2024 seasons and will now be a prime bounceback candidate under Philadelphia defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. Greenard is recovering from season-ending shoulder surgery undergone in December.
A.J. Brown : Eagles add first-round WR
The Eagles' selection of WR Makai Lemon with the No. 20 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft provides further indication that the team is preparing to move on from Brown, Tim McManus of ESPN.com and Zach Berman of The Athletic report. McManus notes that Adam Schefter of ESPN previously suggested Brown appears likely to be traded to the Patriots on or after June 1, and the addition of Lemon to a Philadelphia wideout corps that has already brought in Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks and Elijah Moore this offseason is another sign pointing to such an outcome. Meanwhile, the Patriots opted to bolster their offensive line depth in Round 1 rather than add a high-profile rookie WR by selecting offensive tackle Caleb Lomu 28th overall. For his part, however, Eagles GM Howie Roseman remains reluctant to tip his hand regarding the team's plans for Brown, stating Thursday, "For us, A.J. is a member of the Eagles. ... We don't have any trades that have been made or that are done. And I think for us, we're taking this one day at a time."
A.J. Brown : Patriots remain in mix for trade
The Patriots remain at the clear forefront in terms of trade talks for Brown, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Considering that a potential deal for Brown isn't likely to happen before June 1, Schefter notes that another team could still emerge as a contender to acquire the wideout, but for now the Patriots appear to be the favorites to land the 28-year-old. Added context regarding the chances of New England being Brown's landing spot will arrive in the coming days, via the team's approach to the WR position at the upcoming NFL Draft. Meanwhile, since the end of the 2025 regular season, the Eagles have bolstered their depth at wide receiver by adding Hollywood Brown, Dontayvion Wicks and Elijah Moore.
A.J. Brown : GM Roseman won’t reveal much
Eagles GM Howie Roseman avoided questions about Brown's future while talking with reporters Tuesday, according to Brooks Kubena of The Athletic reports. Roseman initially declined to comment on Brown when answering a two-part question, instead focusing on recent trade acquisition Dontayvion Wicks. When a different reporter asked about Brown again, Roseman responded, "What do you think the odds of me answering this question any different than I answered it anywhere else?" Roseman then repeated his line from earlier this offseason, saying "A.J. Brown's an Eagle." The response will do nothing to quiet trade rumors, with numerous reports suggesting the Eagles had serious talks with the Rams and Patriots in March. From a cap standpoint, it becomes much easier for the Eagles to move on from Brown after June 1, which means this could drag out for a while even if the team has already made an internal decision of sorts.
Dontayvion Wicks : Dealt to Philadelphia
The Eagles agreed to terms Friday on a trade to acquire Wicks (concussion) from Green Bay in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Wicks will reportedly ink a new one-year, $12.5 million contract with Philadelphia, providing him a substantial pay raise. The soon-to-be 25-year-old wideout doesn't necessarily face an easier path to playing time with his new team, though that could change if rumors surrounding A.J. Brown as a potential trade candidate do ultimately materialize this offseason. Per the current state of the Eagles' roster, all of Brown, DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore and TE Dallas Goedert represent target competition for Wicks, who tallied just a 30-332-2 line across 14 regular-season appearances as a depth option for the Packers in 2025. Wicks appears to have gained full clearance from the concussion that forced him to miss the end of the 2025 campaign.
Chandler Martin : Gets look from Philadelphia
The Eagles signed Martin (knee) to a one-year contract Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. As an undrafted rookie last season, Martin played three regular-season games with Baltimore, with all 34 of his snaps coming on special teams. He tore his ACL in late November and ended the campaign on IR. It's unclear how far along Martin is in his recovery, and there's certainly a chance he won't be ready for the start of the 2026 campaign.
