The 26-year-old is coming off the first full season of his four-year career, a 2023 campaign in which he led the league with 4,624 passing yards while throwing 29 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, with his 8.3 YPA ranking second in the NFL. The additions of No. 3 receiver Odell Beckham (undisclosed) and TE Jonnu Smith, plus another year of growth in McDaniel's offensive scheme, could provide enough fuel for Tagovailoa to take yet another step forward during the 2024 campaign.

Vandenburgh (undisclosed) was not listed among Dolphins players placed on the PUP list to begin training camp Tuesday. Vandenburgh appears healthy after having been forced to spend the entire 2023 season on IR due to an undisclosed injury. The former Illinois State standout, who went undrafted last season, is likely competing for a chance to make the team's practice squad.
Tagovailoa's practice participation at training camp will be limited amidst ongoing contract negotiations with the Dolphins, Marcel Louis-Jacques of ESPN.com reports. Tagovailoa's current activity level at training camp is reminiscent of his participation during spring practices, when attended all of June minicamp but missed some time at OTAs. In Wednesday's practice, he participated fully in individual and 7-on-7 drills but only took two snaps in 11-on-11s. Head coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa's situation is "very fluid," noting that the team is "taking it day by day." This offseason, quarterbacks Jared Goff and Trevor Lawrence both signed massive extensions with their respective franchises. Elsewhere around the NFL, Jordan Love and Dak Prescott are notable quarterbacks also negotiating for new deals. The Dolphins thus have plenty of incentive to get an extension locked in for Tagovailoa quickly, both to get the quarterback back on the field and taking reps as soon as possible, and to avoid having to pay a higher price in an ever-increasing market for signal-callers.
Perry (undisclosed) passed his physical and was activated off the active/non-football injury list Tuesday. Perry will now be able to participate in practices and preseason games. He signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in May, and in his final year at TCU, he registered 58 tackles (44 solo), four passes defended and one forced fumble across 12 games.
The Dolphins activated Ahmed (foot) off the active/non-football injury list Tuesday. Ahmed is seemingly healthy once again after spending less than a week on the NFI list. The 25-year-old will now spend the summer competing with Jeff Wilson and Chris Brooks for a roster spot.
McGowan and the Dolphins agreed on a contract Tuesday. McGowan was let go by the Jaguars in late June, but he has now found his next opportunity with Miami. The wide receiver last appeared in an NFL contest in 2022, failing to log any offensive stats while playing in two contests with the Commanders. In all likelihood, McGowan will be battling with the likes of Anthony Schwartz and Je'Quan Burton for a practice squad spot with the Dolphins in 2024.
Long (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday. Long will be sidelined for the time being after landing on the PUP list. Once healthy, the 27-year-old should serve as a starter for Miami once again after racking up 113 tackles (64 solo) a season ago.
The Dolphins placed Washington (undisclosed) on the reserve/injured list Tuesday. Washington will now be forced to miss the entire 2024 season due to his unspecified injury, unless he is waived with an injury settlement. He was selected by Miami in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 241st overall. In his final season at USC, he tallied 59 catches for 1,062 yards and eight touchdowns.
