Tolbert made a spectacular red-zone catch on the first day of training camp practices Thursday, and quarterback Dak Prescott is expecting a breakout campaign from the wideout, Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com reports. "He's worked all offseason and he's gonna make another jump from year two to year three as he did from one to two," Prescott said after practice. "Super proud of him and everything he's done. That catch is a testament to our connection, my trust in him and the hard work he's put in this offseason." A golden opportunity lies in front of Tolbert to begin camp, as CeeDee Lamb is holding out while seeking a contract extension, Michael Gallup is no longer on the roster and Brandin Cooks will turn 31 years old in September and may have lost a step. A third-round pick in 2022, Tolbert began to turn his athleticism into production last year while suiting up for all 17 games, and if he takes the leap forward that Prescott is predicting, he could become a key target for a QB who led the league in passing TDs in 2023 and finished third in passing yards.

Latest Cowboys News
Jalen Tolbert : Dazzles on Day 1
Tolbert made a spectacular red-zone catch on the first day of training camp practices Thursday, and quarterback Dak Prescott is expecting a breakout campaign from the wideout, Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com reports.
Mazi Smith : Seeing first-team reps
Smith appeared to be back to his usual playing weight on the first day of training camp practices Thursday, and he lined up as the 1-technique on the first-team defense, Nick Harris of DallasCowboys.com reports. The 26th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Smith had a rough rookie season due in part to a shoulder issue that required surgery in the offseason. He showed up at OTAs below his playing weight as he continued his recovery from the surgery, but the Michigan product looks to be 100 percent heading into camp. Dallas is looking for Smith to help anchor the middle of the defensive line in 2024 alongside Osa Odighizuwa.
Mazi Smith : Recovered from shoulder injury
Smith has now recovered from a shoulder injury, Nick Harris of the Cowboys' official site reports. Smith underwent shoulder surgery earlier in the offseason but is now healthy again. The 23-year-old will look to help provide depth along the definitive line once the regular season begins.
DeMarvion Overshown : Healthy again
Overshown (knee) is healthy once again, Nick Harris of the Cowboys' official site reports. Overshown was a third-round pick last year, but he missed the entirety of his rookie season due to a torn ACL. The 23-year-old will look to make his NFL debut once the season begins, where he will likely contribute as a depth linebacker.
David Durden : Healthy for start of camp
Durden (knee) is participating in practice at Cowboys camp this week, Nick Harris of the team's official website reports. Durden suffered a torn ACL last summer and missed all of 2023. Durden went undrafted out of West Florida last year. He's competing for one of the final roster spots on the wideout depth chart.
Luke Schoonmaker : Cleared from hamstring issue
Schoonmaker (hamstring) has been cleared for the start of Cowboys camp, Nick Harris of the team's official website reports. Schoonmaker underwent shoulder surgery following last season and then picked up a hamstring injury that caused him to miss the entirety of OTAs. He's now healthy, and the 2023 second-round pick has the inside track to No. 2 tight end duties behind Jake Ferguson in Dallas. Schoonmaker caught just eight balls for 65 yards and two touchdowns across 17 regular-season games last season, spanning 368 offensive snaps.
Trevon Diggs : Officially lands on PUP list
The Cowboys placed Diggs (knee) on the active/PUP list Thursday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. Archer also noted that Diggs' stay on the active/PUP list is not expected to be long, but he'll begin Dallas' camp there as he continues to recover from a torn ACL. Once the Alabama product is able to return to the field, the Cowboys should have one of the best cornerback duos in football in DaRon Bland and Diggs.
CeeDee Lamb : Expected to hold out
Lamb is not expected to report to training camp Wednesday with his Cowboys teamates, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Lamb and Dallas were unable to reach a contract extension during the offseason. The star pass catcher is entering the last year of a deal scheduled to earn him $17.99 million. This news does not come out of nowhere, as he also did not show up for June minicamp. While he is sidelined, Brandin Cooks will presumably handle No. 1 receiving duties, while Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks and KaVontae Turpin also figure to see more reps to build a rapport with Dak Prescott.
