It was his third time in the past five years missing double-digit games, but he played either 16 or 17 regular-season games in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022 and 2023. McCaffrey is under contract through 2027 after signing an extension last summer, albeit with no guaranteed money beyond 2025.

Willis signed his exclusive rights free-agent tender with the 49ers on Tuesday. Willis is now officially set to return for to San Francisco for the 2025 campaign after having been tendered earlier in the offseason. He didn't record any stats in 10 games last season and will spend the remainder of the offseason competing for a backup spot behind George Kittle.
Purdy is present Tuesday for the start of San Francisco's voluntary offseason program, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Purdy's rookie deal is currently set to expire after the 2025 campaign, but he and the 49ers remain engaged in talks surrounding a new extension. Both Michael Silver and Dianna Russini of The Athletic report that Purdy's attendance for the start of voluntary OTAs is a sign that contract discussions are moving in the right direction, but this remains a situation that could drag on until the later stage of the offseason. Purdy struggled in 2024 compared to his stellar 2023 season, though the context of Brandon Aiyuk (knee) and Christian McCaffrey (knee) both missing most of the year must be noted. The 25-year-old signal-caller will have do make do without Deebo Samuel, who has been traded to the Commanders, within his offensive playmaking group in 2025, but standout 36-year-old left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) has confirmed his intent to return for a 16th NFL season.

The 31-year-old is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and is an undeniably integral piece of the 49ers' passing game, especially with Deebo Samuel having been traded to the Commanders and Brandon Aiyuk (knee) recovering from right ACL and MCL tears. Per Schefter, Brock Purdy is present for the start of voluntary OTAs, and the truth of the matter may simply be that until the quarterback's new deal is ironed out, San Francisco won't have the flexibility to move forward with other contract discussions.
Tonges re-signed with the 49ers on a one-year, $1.03 million contract Thursday. It's the value of the exclusive rights tender for Tonges, who appeared in 16 regular-season games last season but saw just 34 snaps on offense. He played 232 snaps on special teams, and that figures to be where he'll fit in next season, should he make the 53-man roster.
Alarcon was handed a six-game suspension Wednesday for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Alarcon, a member of the NFL's International Player Pathway Program, inked with San Francisco early January but now faces an additional hurdle in his efforts to earn a reserve role with the team. The 26-year-old spent time with the Cowboys from 2020-2024 but has yet to make his regular-season debut.

He's apparently healthy well before the start of OTAs, but concerns about durability will continue to impact McCaffrey's fantasy value for his age-29 season ahead. It remains to be seen if his Achilles tendons, in particular, can hold up to the kind of workloads Shanahan typically has given him, though perhaps he is trying to avoid having to find out the answer to that question if the team does in fact add another running back to the mix.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Tuesday that the 49ers intend to bring in a veteran kicker "who's capable of taking that job" to compete with Moody this offseason, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Shanahan communicated a belief that competition could bring out the best in Moody going forward, saying "if he can overcome that, and beat out a capable guy, that'll show us he's ready for the season." A 2023 third-round pick, Moody's struggles in 2024 can be attributed in part to a high-ankle sprain, which forced him to miss three contests and could have continued to impact his performance upon return to the field. He converted just 71 percent of his field goals across 14 regular-season appearances, and made only four of nine field-goal attempts from 50+ yards out.
