The Cubs designated Blach for assignment Tuesday. Blach spun three scoreless innings out of the Cubs' bullpen Monday against the Brewers in his lone appearance for the club, and his reward is being jettisoned from the 26-man and 40-man rosters. The lefty will likely clear waivers, and if that happens, he would have the ability to decline an outright assignment and become a free agent.

Latest Cubs News
Ty Blach : DFA’d by Cubs
The Cubs designated Blach for assignment Tuesday. Blach spun three scoreless innings out of the Cubs' bullpen Monday against the Brewers in his lone appearance for the club, and his reward is being jettisoned from the 26-man and 40-man rosters. The lefty will likely clear waivers, and if that happens, he would have the ability to decline an outright assignment and become a free agent.
Caleb Thielbar : Reinstated from injured list
The Cubs activated Thielbar (hamstring) from the 15-day injured list Tuesday. Thielbar wound up being sidelined for nearly a month with a left hamstring strain, but he's been cleared to return after making one scoreless rehab appearance. The left-hander had been serving as the Cubs' closer before he got hurt, but with Daniel Palencia now healthy, Thielbar will slide into a setup role.
Shota Imanaga : Mauled by Milwaukee
Imanaga (4-4) took the loss against the Brewers on Monday, allowing eight runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out two batters over 4.1 innings. Imanaga got through three frames with just one run on his ledger, but Milwaukee tagged him for four runs in the fourth. The fifth didn't go any better for the southpaw, as Jake Bauers belted a three-run homer against him with one out to give the Brewers an 8-0 lead and end Imanaga's outing. The eight runs Imanaga allowed marked a season high, and his stretch of three straight quality starts came to a crashing halt. Imanaga's ERA jumped over a run from 2.32 to 3.38 as a result of the blow-up.
Ethan Roberts : Allows first run Monday
Roberts allowed a run on three hits and a walk across 1.2 innings of relief in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. Roberts got the call early with Shota Imanaga getting shelled for eight runs in only 4.1 innings of work. The former slowed down Milwaukee a bit, though he did allow his first run of the season in the process. Roberts is still sitting with a stellar 0.96 ERA in 9.1 innings across seven appearances this year, and he might need to take on a larger bullpen role moving forward with Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) and Riley Martin (elbow) both on the 15-day injured list, and Hunter Harvey (triceps) on the 60-day injured list.
Ty Blach : Effective in team debut
Blach tossed three scoreless innings of relief in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. He allowed one hit and struck out two. Blach had his contract selected from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday, and he made his team debut a day later. The lefty, who last appeared in the majors for Colorado back in 2024, looked good, albeit in a low-leverage spot with the Cubs already down six runs when he entered the contest. Blach replaced Javier Assad on the roster for now, though the latter could be back in short order after a stint in Iowa.
Michael Busch : Reaches three times in loss
Busch went 2-for-2 with a walk, two doubles and an RBI in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. Busch continued his strong recent play with two more hits in the blowout loss. The first baseman has a hit in 14 of 17 games this month, and he's batting .339 overall in May to go along with two home runs and 16 RBI. Busch had a breakout 2025 campaign, and after a slow start in 2026, it looks like he's getting back on track as a key part of Chicago's offensive attack.
Dansby Swanson : Extends hitting streak with homer
Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. Swanson clubbed his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning, which extended his modest hitting streak to three games. Before this recent stretch, the veteran shortstop was batting just .133 in May, and he's still under the .200 mark for the year to go along with a subpar .669 OPS. Swanson will likely be allowed to play his way out of his early-season slump, but fantasy managers may want to consider some other options in shallow formats if his struggles persist for too long.
Michael Conforto : Overtaking Ballesteros at DH
Conforto will start at designated hitter and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Brewers. The Cubs are including Conforto in the starting nine for a third consecutive game, with the struggling Moises Ballesteros having hit the bench for all of those contests. At this point, Conforto appears to have emerged as the Cubs' preferred option at DH while he's maintained a magnificent .345/.456/.655 slash line to go with three home runs, 11 RBI and 11 runs in 68 plate appearances on the season. The Cubs are still likely to shield the left-handed-hitting Conforto from lefty pitching, but that arrangement could help prop up his batting average.
