Latest Cubs News
Corbin Martin : Sent outright to Triple-A
The Cubs outrighted Martin to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. Martin passed through waivers after being removed from the 40-man roster last week. He has the ability to decline the outright assignment and elect free agency, but it's unclear what Martin's plans are.
Jameson Taillon : Tough-luck loss Sunday
Taillon (2-2) took the loss Sunday against the Rangers, allowing one run on four hits and two walks in 5.1 innings. He struck out four. Taillon hardly deserved the loss in a positive showing Sunday, keeping the ball in the yard for the first time since his first start of the season. The 34-year-old right-hander continued to provide the Cubs with length as well, pitching at least five innings in his seventh consecutive outing. Taillon has a quality 3.94 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB over 45.2 frames, and he should remain worth streaming in most fantasy formats with a matchup against the White Sox on tap for next weekend.
Alexander Bregman : Handed day off
Bregman is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers. The Cubs will give Bregman a breather for the series finale, a day after the club's 10-game winning streak came to an end. Matt Shaw will fill in at third base in place of Bregman, who didn't contribute much to Chicago's winning ways by batting just .222 with seven runs and three RBI during the streak before going 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Saturday.
Edward Cabrera : Takes loss Saturday
Cabrera (3-1) was tagged with the loss Saturday against the Rangers after allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk across five innings. He struck out six. This was Cabrera's worst outing of the season, and he's clearly trending in the wrong direction after suffering his first defeat of 2026. It seems his strong start to the campaign, where he tossed 11.2 scoreless frames in his first two outings, is now a distant memory -- he's allowed at least three earned runs in his last six appearances. The five earned runs he gave up in this loss were a season-worst mark. Cabrera, who gave up multiple homers for the third time in his last four starts, now has a 3.88 ERA across 46.1 innings. He's slated to make his next start over the upcoming weekend against the White Sox.
Javier Assad : Picks up win in relief
Assad (3-1) tossed 3.2 scoreless innings of relief to earn the win in Friday's 7-1 victory over the Rangers. He allowed a hit and a walk, while striking out one. Ben Brown started for the Cubs and gave them four solid innings before turning things over to the bullpen. Assad stepped up with some important length and earned his third win of the year and second in relief. The righty has a subpar 6.00 ERA across 24 innings so far, but that figure is inflated by the nine runs he allowed on April 13 and the six runs he gave up on April 25. Outside of those two bad outings, Assad has a sharp 0.52 ERA.
Ian Happ : Scores twice in win
Happ went 1-for-4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Rangers. Happ extended his on-base streak to 29 games, which dates back to April 5. While the veteran's .243 batting average doesn't jump off the page, his .376 on-base percentage would be a new career high. Happ is buoying that on-base percentage with a nearly 17 percent walk rate, which would also be a new career best. As long as Happ keeps getting on base frequently, he should be able to score plenty of runs for the Cubs.
Peter Crow-Armstrong : Two more hits, stolen base Friday
Crow-Armstrong went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a stolen base in Friday's 7-1 win over the Rangers. It was Crow-Armstrong's second multi-hit game in the last three contests after he'd gone 12 straight games with one hit or fewer. PCA is now on a six-game hitting streak and may be finding his swing after a slow start to the 2026 campaign. He's slashing .255/.321/.400 with four home runs, 17 RBI, 24 runs scored, nine stolen bases and an 11:42 BB:K across 160 plate appearances.
Michael Busch : Drives in three more Friday
Busch went 1-for-3 with a three-run double, two walks, one stolen base and a run scored in Friday's 7-1 win over the Rangers. Busch walked and stole his first base of the season in the sixth inning before hitting a bases-clearing, three-run double in the seventh to break the game open. After Busch got off to a really slow start over the first month of the season, he's been swinging a hot bat in May. In eight games this month, Busch is 11-for-27 with four doubles, a triple, one homer, 12 RBI, three runs scored and eight walks. He's raised his slash line to .234/.345/.369 with three homers, 23 RBI, 17 runs scored, one stolen base and a 23:36 BB:K across 168 plate appearances.
