Mauricio (knee) went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base Sunday for Single-A St. Lucie. After missing the entire 2024 campaign due to ACL surgery that required a follow-up procedure last August, Mauricio was brought along slowly by the Mets this spring and didn't see his first game action of the year until Sunday. The 24-year-old wasted no time demonstrating that he was fully healthy, singling up the middle in his first at-bat and promptly swiping second base. Mauricio still has a minor-league option left, so there's no guarantee he'll be added to the Mets' 26-man roster once his rehab assignment is over, but it looks like he could be ready to bolster the big-league infield within a few weeks. In his last full season in the minors in 2023, Mauricio slashed .292/.346/.506 over 116 games for Triple-A Syracuse with 23 homers and 24 steals.
Torrens is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals. Now on the bench for the fourth time in five games, Torrens is expected to see light playing time moving forward after top backstop Francisco Alvarez returned from the 10-day injured list last week to make his season debut. Torrens proved to be an adequate replacement for Alvarez behind the dish, as he enters Monday's contest with a .258/.292/.419 slash line over his 65 plate appearances on the season.
Acuna is starting at second base and batting ninth in Monday's game versus the Nationals, Andrew Tredinnick of NorthJersey.com reports. Acuna has now been in the lineup three times in four games since Jeff McNeil returned from the injured list, as McNeil has started in center field twice during that span and was on the bench the one time the Mets faced a lefty. If McNeil proves to be a viable option on a regular basis in center field, Acuna could find himself in the lineup often at the keystone.
Taylor is absent from the lineup for Monday's contest against the Nationals, Andrew Tredinnick of NorthJersey.com reports. Taylor has now yielded to Jeff McNeil twice in four games in center field since the latter returned from the injured list. With McNeil handling center field Monday, Luisangel Acuna is covering second base for the Mets.
Stanek (0-2) was charged with the loss and a blown save Sunday against the Nationals. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in a third of an inning. With Edwin Diaz apparently unavailable, Stanek got another chance in the ninth inning after blowing his last save opportunity Friday. Sunday's outing did not go any better for Stanek -- he surrendered the tying run on a pair of hits before the Nats scored the game-winner on a Pete Alonso error. Stanek's ERA now sits at 3.60 with a 1.50 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB across 10 innings as he falls to 1-for-3 in save chances.
Megill didn't factor into the decision Sunday against the Nationals, allowing three runs on three hits and one walk over 6.1 innings. He struck out nine. Megill held the Nats to one run on just one hit (a Dylan Crews homer -- the first given up by Megill this season) through his first six innings. However, he'd allow two more hits in the seventh before turning it over to Jose Butto out of the bullpen, who allowed both inherited runners to score. Still, it's the first time Megill's made it through six innings this year and he's yet to allow more than three earned runs in a start. His ERA sits at a sparkling 1.74 with a 1.13 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB across six outings (31 innings). Megill is currently slated to face the Cardinals on the road in his next start.
Diaz (hip) was not used in a save situation Sunday, and the Mets and Ryne Stanek blew the save in his absence. Diaz did pitch Saturday and converted the save while throwing 22 pitches, but they didn't turn to him to cap off the series against the Cats. It's unclear whether he has aggravated his previous hip injury or if the Mets were just being cautious with Diaz.
